Help and advice please for my on-going yet to be fulfilled project. Could I run a wire directly from the leisure battery via a cut-off switch and in-line fuse, or should I use the EDB? Attached is a picture of both. If I run off the leisure battery presumably I attach feed wire live and neutral to the terminals indicated. Would it need an earth terminal and what size wire/fuse recommended? Run length about 5 metres maximum.

Mine is powered direct from the battery.. that way it is never switched off unless I do it.

10A rocker or toggle switch, 5A inline fuse .. power on mine is 40watt so a 5 amp fuse is ample (yours may be more, divide: W power V voltage = A current

2.5mm flexible cable

No ground earth required if fed with a live and neutral from battery

Thank you that sounds promising. Could I trouble you for a picture of your battery connections please? Also, what model fridge do you have? There seem to be many options and personal recommendations are very helpful.

Sorry, battery is under the passenger seat and not easily accessible ..

you can connect to the battery using the clamp bolt and ring connector crimps

The fridge is a 60lt Vitrifrigo an Italian make

Thank you. I feel encouraged in my quest. Presumably no problems regarding battery reserve?

that will depend on battery capacity, how long you are off-grid and if you have solar .

The fridge doesn't run all the time. in normal use I would say about 40% of the time, again depending on weather and how often you open the door.. a full fridge will use less than one half empty ..

mine is 40w.. it's using 40/12 = 3.3 A = 80ah .. for 40% of the day = 32ah

I have two lead acid batteries, capacity is 200ah , with gives a useful capacity of 100ah (50%)

so in theory my fridge could run for three days without driving.. but I also have 160 watt solar and never worry about battery capacity ..
I sometimes use aires or sites with EHU other times not.. but it's never been an issue .. those who stay off grid for longer will probable have more solar and maybe fit LiFePO4 batteries with a b2b charger ..an expense I haven't considered as haven't found I need to.

I'll be mostly driving, on hook-up if available or back-up solar. Although, maybe I need to check the capacity of the solar. Not dissimilar to you arrangements.
