Ive sometimes regretted not spending time with “old uns “ to record their life stories in perpetuity. They have such an important and interesting tale to tell. It would be good if everybody wrote down a brief life history before they depart.

Lovely to hear that Geoff and I hope that Valentina has a lovely day.

Please substitute Valentina for "you" as appropriate :)

Some people are so resilient. She sounds like a lovely (and very interesting) lady.
Happy Birthday.

My friends Polish father, who if he was still alive would be over 100 today, he was also sent to Siberia during WWII, escaped, spent 9 months walking from Siberia to Persia.
Went to the British Embassy in Tehran and said he wanted to fight Germans.
Put on a ship by the British in Basra to Cape Town, and then another ship to Brazil, and then a fishing boat from Brazil to Liverpool where he arrived in 1943.
Joined the RAF as a fitter, then became the rear gunner in Lancaster's bombing Germany.
Demobbed in 1946 and given one final order; "Marry a British girl" which he duly did.

He recorded the story for the BBC and it was played on Radio4 over two hour long shows about 20 years ago.

For those with an interest in history and the expulsion of the Poles to Siberia in 1940 there is an excellent book called The Long Walk, the true story of a Polish soldier who also escaped from the Siberian camps and walked over the Himalayas to British India.

Lovely idea, everyone has a story to tell. Surprising how many times I’ve learnt things about someone at their funeral I never knew about them.

Happy Birthday Valentina! :birthday:

Yes,exactly that! And then I wonder why I was so stupid not to ask them more questions about their life. Suppose I don’t want to be nosy.

Awww how wonderful.

Happy birthday lovely lady. Bet you didn't realise that you had so many invisible friends on the screen.

Big hugs. Xxx
