We have recently bought a new PVC from West Country Motorhomes.
We had dealt with them before, buying two motorhomes from them in the 1990’s. We had a good experience with them then, both for Sales and after sales service. At that time we would certainly have rated their after sales as excellent. They were great at resolving any problems with manufacturers and at keeping us informed.
In the 00’s we had a break from motorhoming but returned to it in 2012. We decided recently to downsize from a coachbuilt to a PVC. We returned to the dealer who sold us our last coachbuilt and they offered us a good deal for exchange, but we were not impressed with their after sales service. We decided to give WCM another try.
Their sales team were excellent. Not at all “pushy” but happy to answer any questions we had and demonstrate anything we didn’t understand. They also matched the deal we had been offered elsewhere.
We were happy with the general design and layout of the PVC we were interested in but it only had a grill fitted, not an oven. We do a lot of cold weather travelling and find we like an oven for “comfort food” in cold weather.
WCM offered to swap the grill for a combined oven/grill, at our expense of course. The change was effected on time and the standard of finish of workmanship appears very good. The new unit looks like an original fitment .
On picking up the m/h on 26th November the hand over was well handled with everything we thought we needed to know being explained.
On getting home we noticed that the Thule electric slide out step was not deploying as far as it was when we saw it in the showroom. Mobility problems meant that it was a little awkward to get in and out with the step as it was. A ‘phone call to WCM led to a call back, within 15 minutes, from their workshops. A very friendly, patient and experienced technician talked me through the Control panel hidden menus to set the step as we wished.
So far we have only driven the m/h 80 miles back to our house but, while stowing everything on board and testing systems, we have yet to find anything that had been missed in the PDI. Full marks there.
It is a little early yet to say how they will perform hereafter but we are setting out on a reasonably long trip next Saturday to give it a “shake down” cruise. If any problems arise I will report back on how they deal with them.
The only caution I would give is WCM’s attitude to deposits. On agreeing the deal we were required to pay a £2,000 deposit which was non-returnable. In the event of us changing our mind after agreeing the deal we could not recover our money, only a credit note valid for twelve months against another vehicle.
That did not bother us as we had done our research and were sure it was the right choice for us, but be aware.
So far so good. We are happy customers at this time.
