After having been seriously let down by another dealer in trying to buy my first motorhome, I turned to Simon at Alan-Kerr in Paignton. Having become aware of his oustanding reputation through this forum I wanted to deal with someone I could trust. It turned out to be well placed too.

It's also worth noting, that I live just north of Newcastle upon Tyne so Simon is a good 400 miles away.

I enquired about a particular van they had on their website with a few additional requirements. Simon contacted me very quickly and we then negotiated a deal that both of us were happy with.

A reliable warranty was of great importance to me given the distance between us, but I was reassured that I could have any warranty work undertaken at an approved workshop in my local area. Great.

We agreed a collection date and I travelled down by train. Danny met me at the station and took me to the site, showed me the van to start with before then getting settled down with a refreshing cup of tea.

The handover, was not the smoothest. However, the measure of a good supplier is how they deal with the unexpected. In this respect everyone I dealt with when collecting the van, from Simon to every member of his team, were professional, friendly and just damn very nice to deal with. Their efforts were to ensure I was happy.

Every issue was handled such I had confidence in being supplied a quality van that they were happy to put their reputation behind.

Simon, Danny, Natalie and Rob along with the ladies in the office and reception were brilliant to deal with.

I had booked into a local pub with an attached campsite that first night and Simon & Natalie guided a nervous newcomer (very first time driving a motorhome) to the site via wide local roads and a petrol station that was easy to drive into and out of. There we were joined by Rob for a few drinks to celebrate my first motorhome. It was a very nice end to a long day with good company and a great atmosphere.

On the way home I noticed a couple of issues with the van, typical ones for Bailey, that are not apparant unless you undertake an extensive road test. I messaged Simon on Saturday, morning about them and pretty much straight away a very lovely lady called me to arrange to have them sorted locally. Couldn't ask for any better support than that.

We have a weekend booked into a local campsite in a couple of weeks to give the van a thorough test but I expect to merely have a lovely weekend away without any drama. Well not from the van anyway.... LOL

All in all, a very good experience in dealing with lovely people. A team that Simon should be and in fact is proud of and rightly so.

So from both my self and my better half. Thanks you've all restored our faith in dealers. There are some good ones out there.

So to anyone thinking about changing their van, get in touch with the team at Alan-Kerr, you won't be disappointed.

Well after dealing with Simon at Howards Motorhomes in Dec 2019 when he did the impossible and got us into our Adria Sonic A Class, he’s done it again and upgraded us into our Carthago Chic C-Line.
The deal itself was too good to turn down and after travelling down in the early hours to collect and have the handover and sort out the gremlin with the satellite system for a couple of hours inc a free upgrade on the system (turned out it was a loose connection on the tv).
He’s done everything he said he would including taking out my stereo out the sonic and giving it me back to put in the Carthago as it was a birthday present from Mrs Westy and that meant so much to us.
The Carthago is great so far and we intend to fully enjoy it.
Simon if you read this please don’t get a N&B Flair 8000i in

Background: I PM'd Simon a couple of weeks ago to ask whether or not he would be interested in buying our van and within a few minutes he accepted the offer; the various administrative points were nailed down a few hours later. He even offered to have it picked up from our home to save us any inconvenience buy in the end we delivered it ourselves.

I've got to say now that I've never held much trust for motorhome dealers (or the industry as a whole), but Simon and his fabulous team at Alan Kerr Motorhomes in Devon has really shown me that great dealers do exist.

Simon was a real pleasure to befriend and he even took considerable time out of his day to host us personally when my wife and I visited his very busy offices.

The administrative side of the transaction was precise and rapid while the safe financial transfer of funds happened within only a few minutes.

Ive got a whole load of time for Simon himself and I do respect anyone in his capacity who is prepared to put his name and his reputation on such a huge forum as MotrohomeFun.

Alan Kerr Motorhomes Ltd, specifically Simon and his team, are a real credit to the industry.
