I think it was chaser who first found the excellent aire in Prahecq, South East of Niort in western France. Completely free, including free electricity, it was a little gem.

But I guess the town wasn't making any money so it looks like they are handing over the management to CCP, opening on 24 May.

Still being new to motorhoming....is CCP just another britstops,P4N... But for Europe?

I am planning on taking my first trip to France this year, but currently overloaded with apps like the above, as well as campercontact, search for sites. Looking at the website, I take they are a corporate company just buying up the land the aire was on? Have any of you needed CCP on European travels?

Thanks.

They do not buy the land but manage it on behalf of the owner (mostly local authorities) who set the rate CCP charge.

Worth joining as they have some nice aires in good places.

Another one gone, CCP would be OK if they had the option of no EHU.
But you love to hook up dont you?::bigsmile:

TBH its only 6a so not much use anyway so unless we are looking to cook a lot we dont bother as we dont have a mains charger we use but for us if its in the right place we will stop.

Also if you take into account you can fill and empty rahter than paying €4 or €5 they are somewhat economical if you need services.

And unfortunately their recent updates to the app are not working on some platforms.

The latest version 200.1.1 - released within hours of the previous one! - still won’t display site details on my iPhone.

When we first went it was all new and someone came round everyday and cleaned the emptying place, couldn't see then how it could all be for free.
But there you go, at least as Landy Andy says it might stay open but to be honest it might not get many takers if they put a big price on it.

You're pretty much wrong on all your assumptions, they are far.. far Superior to Britstops (which are just pub car parks) CCP sites are quite well equiped dedicated stop overs for mohos, with 6amp EHU, water and waste dumps included... there is nothing like this in England.

They don't suit everyone, but I think they're great, using them whenever possible when in France.

Some of them are ex camp sites with showers and toilets open in the high season, some even have cafes many are located close to towns and villages.

They are not a corperate company buying up land, they usually work with the local authorities by refurbishing aires and 'sharing' any profit.

They don't all have EHU Lenny, but i'll concede that most do. This one at Gastes does not, or didn't when I was last there. It's a nice spot by the lake with a bar/cafe a short walk away.

I would recommend you join if you are planning to visit France. Originally you got a card either by post or from a machine at the site entrance. They now appear to have dropped issuing new cards and it is now all done online although cards still work (for the moment) for those of us who have them.

With the new system you arrive at an aire and their app gives you a code to use to enter.

This is their website, you may have to deposit €20 or so in your account but you can use this later to stay at aires.

There are no pegs :giggle: park wherever you like in whatever direction you like, the green posts are just there to stop people from driving on or off without paying.
But you have to admit the photo does show them all as "regimented"! :whistle2: :giggler:

Nice part of the world and I like the CCP offering even though I don't usually bother to plug in unless I intend to use the microwave, I still feel they are a useful part of the mix of options available to motorhomes, particularly the chance to empty and fill and top up batteries for those that need to. I was in the area recently and there are still plenty of free overnight stops with black and grey waste disposal to hand so they are not taking options away, just providing something a lot of people want (Judging by their success).

Over the last 10 years or so we've never had a problem finding small aires in France with free disposal and fresh water and delightful locations, villages with bakeries and cafes, but maybe times are changing??
Not a fan of CCP and so far haven't felt the need to use one. Barely one step removed from a campsite now and we avoid campsites completely.
I just don't like the CCP business model, the corporacy of the sites - a bit like Travelodge for motorhomes - each one very similar. I guess if you want certainty and the possibility of booking, and a barrier, and marked out pitches, and EHU ..... We don't.
CCP expansion in France will push me across the Pyrenees.

Not the same. CCP charges are around 10/13€ and they provide water, black and grey waste dumps. Some have EHU and showers as well. I use them quite often now that Aires are harder to find. Basically they are a half way house between Aires and campsites. Some are brilliant some not so. A one off payment for life is worth having.

I think you will find they have gone up a bit in price now, and what's the one off payment for life?

There are lots in Spain now too, or did you mean Morocco 😉

The many I've stayed at have been nothing like campsites (even the ex campsites), no warden, no waiting to book in or out, nobody telling where you can and can't park.

I've used them a few times and if you think CCP are dear, have you seen the price of stelleplatz in Holland and Germany for a similar offering? With a mix of CCP, free aires and formal sites I managed an average of just over £11 last year. This years trip through Holland up to Denmark looks certain to put the kybosh on getting anywhere near as low as that figure this year.
