Just looking
Back from " Northumberland trip, shorter than planned" 8 days ago.
But CLL appointment rescheduled from this week to next, so having a quicky 🄰.
Off to Pennine lodge ccc cs a 20 minute walk from St. John's chapel in upper Weardale.
Leaving at 11ish, no hurry can't arrive before noon.
Van packed with all dry goods the yesterday, food at the last minute, mice not encouraged.

Wow Pennine lodge, I know it very well! A lovely place enjoy.

We are there now. Arrived 2 hours ago had lunch, didn't notice an empty freezer bag had blown onto the still hot diesel hob. Co2 alarm told us. Switch off, wait till it was cool, scrape off the melted plastic. 1 hour and 2 beers later , sitting in the sunshine.
What a tranquil place, owners are friendly; just simply chilling out for the weekend.
Will walk along the river at some point.
ccc website says from £15, that might be for tents perhaps;cost us £17 each night, we don't need EHU.
Don't know how much for EHU.

I'm on a THS paying £15 per night! If I remember rightly the shower room is fantastic there. Yes the owner is great he's American and very into his fly fishing, he has loads of local knowledge about fishing etc. The little water fall is worth a dip it's deep. Now you have reminded me I might have a look up next week it's that tranquil.
Enjoy mate.

Where is the THS, always looking for places we've never been.

Sitting here on the site relaxing, the field is lumpy bumpy but we found a level enough spot easily.
Drive up here was good, passed through Wolsingham, Frosterly, Stanhope, Eastgate.
All typical country villages, nice Weardale scenery.
Alston where the traveling folk have their summer horse fayre is just a few miles further on.
Passed loads of sheep all answering to Lambchop.
A vid of the site.

Over the wall is the river Wear, just a stream here.

Harrogate Pateley bridge show ground. The Derwent reservoir do a pub stop it was £10 last year with a couple of pubs at near by Emundbyres....this is about 25 miles ISH from your location.

Thanks, think the THS is on until 25th of this month. Other things stop us after this weekend.
But might try Derwent res, would look to have a few locations to stop in the area but not too near to each other.

Your video has definitely made me feel like I need a trip up there again... thanks for sharing (y)

Didn't go for a walk, just sat in the sunshine and relaxed.
Just finished our Spag Bog.
Bog was from our freezer, Spag cooked fresh.
Also had some hot X buns, but toasted them in a pan on the diesel hob and managed to burn them a bit; but still went down well.

What direction is the waterfall, will be walking along the river tomorrow?

Er... Right behind the shower block is a little road/path that leads to a Ford.. other side of ford is a small water fall and pool. Salmon jump up there in the fall.

OK, only got as far as the shower block.
Didn't go down to the river.
The 2 showers are wet room style, lovely and clean although the walls are bare block and one wall is rendered. Floors are laid with nice quality tiles.

Yes you could take half a rugby team in each shower room from my memory

You can cross the river via ford or a small bridge just down from the shower block and walk down stream to the village for pubs(y)

Yes we will walk down river to the village tomorrow.
At first sight when driving through it didn't look to have anything to recommend it?

I hope the two boozers are still going

Will find out tomorrow, fancy a proper pub pint.
Used to love Newky when I was a boy.
Also, Watneys red barrel.
These days, Guinness or John Smiths or Murphy's or London pride (think that what it's called, long time since I've had one). Only occasionally a lager.

Oh I'd only ever use a beer to cook with now  I sometimes like a pale or IPA

Kilhope Wheel is worth a visit if you are nearby.

The drive over from Stanhope to Middleton in Teesdale is a cracking one. Then there is Low Force and High force to see just up the road from there. Proper wild wilderness country. Ill be over where you are on the bike tomorrow early evening. I live on the Teesdale / North Yorkshire border. Was up above Grinton Leadmines near Reeth about 6pm and it was 20c high up. Absolutely stunning. Looks like you got a great spot.

And Gibson's Cave.

And Gibson's Cave.

Yes. I was up there the other week. Its worth mentioning also that if you have walking difficulties there is a Tramper off road mobility scooter you can use for Low force, Gibsons cave and one at High Force also. You can book through here.

Think the Land Rover of mobility scooters.

Its a fantastic scheme.

Barryd mentioned Yorkshire in post #24 and that reminded me.
Lodge farm at Spofforth is a lovely site.
Good amenities and nice and quiet. Was £12 A night 2 years ago when we were there. It's a ccc cs.
