Hi All
I am wondering if any of you can offer some advice on fuel consumption, comparing Man 4.6l to Iveco Daily 3.0l, on a MH up to 7.5 ton. (Concorde/Morelo etc)
The publication of the new climate action plan in europe has brought this more to the front of considerations, as I expect there will be hefty tax increases on diesel coming down the line.
Thanks

I don’t think there will be much in it, our 2006 IVECO 3 litre pulling around 6t would do between 19 and 23 mpg, our 2020 IVECO 3 litre with 8 speed ZF but a tad over 7t is doing about 17 at the moment but not many miles on it yet, I don’t have any experience with MAN but I think jongood might be able to shed some light.

You’re looking at a concorde or morello and are worrying about fuel consumption ?
I didn't say I was worrying about it !!;)
However, I never like to be profligate and I would prefer to go at least some way towards fuel efficiency if possible, all other things being equal!

Wow, that's interesting thanks. I had expected the Iveco 8 speed would have higher mpg..

I should also have asked for any comparative performance differences between the two!!?....Ta

Yes that’s a funny thing all this green crap and better efficiency every 3.0 I have bought over the last 12 years has used more fuel than the previous model 3.0 (Motorhome)
All that cleaning and additives and "stuff" making it less efficient I guess

Well this 2018 Iveco uses a bit more than the last 2016 one with no adblue plus the 10 Litres of adblue every 1,000 miles.
This adblue is just a sticking plaster after all.

On our last 3.0 Fiat Hymer tag auto 9mtr our average was 23-24 over 10,000 miles full to full about 50% towing

My 20 year old fiat motorhome has always returned better MPG Than any of my new or old sprinter vans, motorhomes and traveliners

First of Kilroy the determining factor should not be fuel consumption, unless you're going around the world and back a big motorhome has so many more variables than the relatively piddling amount you're going to pay on diesel each year.

The 6 cylinder MANs are reputed to be generally better on fuel than the 4 cylinder ones, but it obviously depends what its in and how its driven. I've got the 6 cylinder 6.9 litre with a Manual box and were plated at 8500kgs. on our first trip to Germany I got around 18 mpg. Where we've just been in Spain and Portugal I reckon we've been getting about 16mpg but we've done some serious hill climbing, across the A24 is like going across the roof with some serious climbs and again up and down the Picos. Im hoping for 18 again on the home run through France But then again I might well drive differently to you. My honest advice is unless its ridiculous then buy what you want.

I am totally in agreement with that sentiment. I was starting from ignorance but had read (it seems wildly inaccurate) reports of 14.5 mpg vs 24/5 on the Iveco. It looks from the feedback here that there is not a significant difference, certainly not a difference of that order! Good news.
Thanks for the feedback!
