Sorry about the size, can't make it as big as I should like (common complaint!). Can anyone help?

We were approached last year by a reasonably smartly dressed individual on a full Services Aire on the A6.

He claimed he had had a breakdown and needed money to pay for the labour to replace the water pump, which he claimed had taken all his available cash. The garage, he said, would not accept credit cards. He said he needed 120 euros but anything we could spare would help and, if we exchanged addresses, he would return our money when he got back to UK. he appeared to be genuine and we had some sympathy for him......" there but for the grace of God etc."

I offered to loan him some euros in exchange for his passport details as well as his address. At that he just turned and walked away without another word!

And
if in that situation you contact the Embassy and they help you get money or you telephone your bank and get rescue money

it's a fairly common scam though usually East European in origin
