Indeed, and I'm seriously considering changing to them, even though the Michelins are brand new. The ride is horrible at 80 psi on the rear.

Strange how the company says the front can run at 56 psi, which is heavier than the rear axle on my van.

The advice I received (and it was exactly the same with the van before last in 2010, which unfortunately came [second-hand] with Michelins) appears to be based on the fact that in their opinion many/most motorhomes run overweight - which is what the individual reply I received indicated. And which in itself of course would be illegal.

The ride quality was transformed in my last van when the tyre pressures were lowered to those recommended by Continental, based on the actual axle weights.
Hi Mike

If I was in your situation I would just drop the rears to a sensible figure relative to the axle weights (you can work it out yourself from the front) I would not see their 80 psi "recommendations" as any more than that. Our van is now 10 years old so I imagine pre camping tyres, the original fit was Michelin Agilis 81 and in the back of the manual was a tyre pressure chart from Michelin giving correct pressures relative to axle load.

Currently, The (Now Uprated to 3850Kg) Rapido, is running 215 70R 15CP 109 rated tyres
Rear Conti; (CP) @ 5.5bar (80psi) 1900Kg (2000kg Max)
Front Mich Agilas M&S CP 5.0bar (73?psi) 1680Kg (1850max).

Which would appear to be in line with recommendations.

BTW. I am considering buying the TyrePal Solar 4. Any one using one so far and any issues?

I have Continental tyres on my previous and present van. With both I weighed the axles when fully loaded and ready to go and got the recommended pressures from Continental. They were well below the rock hard maximums suggested by Fiat etc., and gave a much better ride.

This thread has been very useful in that it has made up my mind that when it comes to changing tyres I will go for the Continentals again as opposed to the Michelins, even if they cost more.

I have one and so far does what it says on the tin. Only thing I would recommend is set the high pressure alarm about 15psi over what the pressure is cold. I originally set mine at 10 psi above and the alarm constantly tripped as the tyre pressure on average increases by 10 psi when warm. Very annoying when doing 70 on the motorway.

I wanted M&S tyres which Conti do (did) not do?.

Thanks for that.

I thought I made it clear I was using the relevant chart?
2060k per axle at 80psi for 215 75 cp 109 tyres.
http://www.puretyre.co.uk/images/banners/motorhome.pdf

Interesting in that it would appear that my pressures (cold) could be reduced to 5bar (rear and 4bar (front). As I am looking to get a tyre pal. I may experiment and monitor the tyre Temperatures. I have printed it off for future reference.

Cheers

P.s. Further scrutiny, would suggest that even 4.5bar (rear un-driven single) would not be out of order?

If you are using Continental CPs I would strongly suggest that you do not use that chart, but use the relevant figures and charts given by Continental. The pressures are different, and are consistently higher in your chart than the ones given by Continental. Some of that may be due to my CPs having a higher load index than the chart uses - 116 instead of 113.

A fair few of us are using the conti four seasons 2 tyres if that helps.

Looked at them but wanted M&S as we had issues getting off wet grass!. And some parts of Europe have a requirement at certain times of year and conditions?. Crossing the Pyrenees in January comes to mind!. Wouldn't be the first time I followed a snow plough!.

Recently had Conti Vanco Campers put on all four corners - this is what I posted after a quick & dirty visit to a recycling centre weighbridge:

"So rear was 1520, well under the 1900 max and by subtract I estimate the front to be approximately 1660, which is ok I guess with a max front of 1750.

Anyway to get to the point - following funsters recommendations, I phoned up Continental Tech Services, gave my details and the very nice Emma advised that 3.75bar (54psi) front & 4.00bar (58psi) on the rear should do nicely."

Lower than I'd anticipated, and less than fitters had inflated to 70psi.
We'l see what the ride is like on the way to RetroFestival tomorrow :dance2:.

Very strange?. the (Rear) Conti`s (fitted by the dealer April (ish) 2015) show NO M&S marking which was why I have the Agilis on the front? Fitted Jan 2016. At which time there was no indication on the Continental website of a CP M&S tyre.

As I understand it the Vanco IS a C M&S tyre NOT a C-P.

I might just have a look to see when the Conti`s where manufactured?.

@PeteH I take it your rears are not four seasons 2 then?

True, The Dealer had fitted 2 new tyres to the rear (Conti CP`s) I guess to pass the MOT. We did about a thousand miles? on them and having had issues getting off wet ground (FWD) I decided to look for some M&S C-P Tyres for the fronts. At that time the ONLY C-P rated M&S tyres where the Agilis, which we had fitted. It had been suggested we may go to Portugal after Xmas, and previous experience 2003 to 2008, suggested that having an M&S tyre on the driving wheels might be an added bonus. Hence the current tyre Mix.

Had I been changing all 4, I would have gone up to 225 and 112 load range.

We run all year round on Continental Vanco Winter 2 which are full winter tyres. No problems in high temperatures (eg Morocco) although I agree if you've got Tyrepal fitted you need the alarm set higher than recommended. We run at 56psi front and 65psi rear (set cold) as advised by direct contact with Conti. And I keep a copy of their recommendation with the van docs, just in case.

But we still know no more about this dragging waste pipe! Surely it's got nothing to do with tyre pressures?

We would have got these but couldn't find any in the UK at the time.

@TheBig1 thanks I can read that better on the phone :)
For the wheel configuration it says " single , single rear (1) , twin"
My MH is Fwd with 4 wheels , 2 axles .
So to get my front tyre pressures is it the "single" figure I use ?? Then for the rear it's "single rear" ??
Is that correct

Tyre Pal came this a.m. (overnight!), and now fitted. I have reduced the TP`s in line with the recommendations, to see if ride improves. I note that once set up, that when stationary on the driveway ONLY the Graphic, no temperatures or pressures?. Is this Normal or am I missing something?

After an extended period with no movement it will shut down completely, or at least ours does. And yes, what you have described is normal from my perspective.
