Expensive month with the MH becoming two years old:

Habitation check - £170.00
Road tax - £173
Insurance renewal - £258
Fiat short oil service £250 (TBC)

and the possibility that we'll buy a new MH at the NEC next week o_O

My local Fiat dealer quoted me £175 inc vat for a short, bronze service yesterday, the silver service includes air filter and fuel filter and a few other checks and is £289. perhaps you are getting the silver.

I had my first Habitation check done by or should I say at the dealer that I bought it from, 40 mile round trip to leave it there, he said he needed it in overnight, 40 mile round trip to collect the following day and a bill for £180 for the check. I found out he was using a Mobile service engineer to do the checks. The following year I had a Mobile service engineer come to my house and do the checks for £100!!, if you want a contact Caravan Care Ltd caravancare@live.co.uk or caravancarecheshire.co.uk.

I don't like to change my van. I have had it for 25 years. I have kept it for two main reasons. one it really suites my needs. and two it still looks good. well to me. it is an elddis 400. g reg.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but I'm pretty sure you don't have to go to a main dealer for service to maintain the warranty.

Yes I'm aware that I don't have to go to Fiat for the warranty to remain effective. But in the scheme of things its not a lot of money.

That said when I had some warranty work undertaken by Ford & Slater (Fiat commercial) they made me aware of a couple of issues with the Fiat base vehicle that they actively looked out for when motorhomes come in for service work. Namely leaking or poorly sealed scuttle panels - a know fault but not the subject of a recall. So a little bit of knowledge on the base vehicle can help.

Our hab check £145, Oil and filter £150. The fully synthetic oil costs about £75 !!
Yes, prices are crazy these days.. When I was a nipper, my dad earned £8 a week
(and he was a press photographer) we always had enough to eat and he bought our house out of that as well !!
Sorry, I've gone "off piste".. But times have really changed haven't they !!
Mitch.
