  • Hi all , just looking for some advice, my motorhome is a Hymer b584 2002 model. I am looking to buy a avtex tv. I have A socket that says 12v 10 am in what I think originally was the TV locker. Which I use has a storage locker now. So really do not want to use for the tv. The other socket says 12v 6amp, my question is can I use this 12v 6amp socket, for the tv. Any advice please would be welcome. Thank you

Avtex quote 23 watts MAX for the 18.5 inch

Please be aware that many continental motorhomes use Hella 12 volt sockets and the tv probably comes with a standard vcig lighter-sized plug. So, you may well need and converter cable, available from any caravan dealer or specialist.

What socket do you have if its not a cig lighter socket you could always cut the plug off and get one to fit your socket

hi joe thanks for information, what I do know is when I first got the motorhome I put a phone charger in that socket and it blew it, we had been using it with no problems in the cigar lighter on the dashboard. So maybe I will have to get a adapted, thank you very much for your advise.

That looks like a cigarette-lighter socket so you may not need an adapter.

Can't help you with your question but I do have an 19inch Avtex tv for sale if your interested, it's in full working order and still have the original box. Only reason we are selling is due to the fact we have downsized to a PVC and want a TV with built in Sat receiver to save room.

The downside with avtex is the DVD player even John Lewis only give 2 yr warranty but 5 yr on rest of tv

What was the draw for the phone charger? I'm concerned that it blew and you are considering using it for the TV which will likely be a higher draw ... is the socket itself an 'afterfit' or original?

An adaptor won't help if you overload the socket as it's the socket capacity that's important not what fitting you have.

18.5" Avtex is 2 amps or 23 watts MAX
? You said that already  ... I'm concerned as to WHY the socket blew using a phone charger - if the socket can't take the draw it doesn't matter what the TV draws if the socket cannot handle it.

Just because the socket plate states 6amp doesn't mean the wiring behind it IS 6amp.

Thought you'd missed as you said likely to be a higher draw
Without knowing what the phone charger was it's difficult to say for sure if the TV draw is higher or lower but I would certainly expect the TV to have a higher draw.
