- Since july 2009 And Still Going Strong
Just had 6 nights in Belgium. Don't want to offend any Belgium funsters with the following comments.
Three at Ieper, good site, price not bad at €18 per night and great location for going into town. Went to the 8pm ceremony at the Menin gate which is well worth the going out in the cold and dark.
We had a meeting to go to in the car south of Antwerp so stayed at a site near by,
now I know it was the location we wanted but not the best. Loads of holiday caravans with old and dirty awnings, shower block seen better days. Was told we needed to be extra quiet if we came back late so as not to disturb the workers staying in their caravans but we had to suffer at least half a dozen vans going right by us between 4-6am as they went to work.
But it was the cost that's still got me shivering, if we wanted to stay we had to pay for two pitch's, as we've the trailer and car, €34, then €4 for electric, had to put credit on a card which you put in a slot by every tap we used, even at the chemical disposal so that was €3 for around 100ltrs.
Spent the last night at a great little free camping spot, campercontact 14755 south east Belgium. Great spot in the forest and dark and very quiet. Huge tarmac pitch's, managed to back the van and trailer on without unhooking, so that's around 45foot.
Found everywhere very busy, and very built up, the road from Gent-Antwerp is solid urban zone. Roads a little on the rough side as well.
As we traveled further east it all changed, open space, better roads and the autumn colours in the trees was breathtaking.
We will return to Belgium and are after suggestions of areas for our next visit please.
