We have survived the first week of our new adventure.

Arrived in the UK from New Zealand on the 8th February. Picked up our first ever motorhome from Moran Motors in Ludlow on Wednesday. Got a refillable gas system put in by Dave Newell on Thursday (excellent job), and have mostly followed the recommended route, posted on Motorhome fun, from Calais to the south of France. Apart from some satnav issues (set on easy route - which had us tacking from village to village) we have made good progress and will hopefully be in Spain tomorrow.

We intend traveling across the top of Spain and then down through Portugal. Our trip is intended to last 9 months, also taking in France, the top of Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, The bottom of Norway and Sweden and back to the UK. Our grandson will be joining us for 6 weeks -collecting him in Amsterdam before travelling to Scandinavia.

Hope to meet with a other Funsters on the way. Motorhome fun has been of great help to us in planning our trip, particularly because in the words of Sargeant Shultz -"We know nothing, nothing at all".

Regards
Tony and Gretel

Hi Funsters,

Just a brief update on our progress (full details at bigberthatour.blogspot.com/).
We have made it across the top of Spain to Santiago (wonderful city and cathedral), down through Portugal to Cape St Vincent (south western most point of Europe), then across Spain and up to the Costa brava.

Highlights have been Santiago Cathedral (best free cathedral), Porto, Henry the Navigator's School of Navigation (best landscape), Silves, Olvera (best village and impressive countryside - be sure to visit Pepe's bar), Simat de la Valligna (best aire in a small village near Valencia, set adjacent to orange groves),
Belchite (best history lesson - a town bombed in the Spanish civil war, very sobering), and Barcelona (best city).

Worst moment was a puncture on the motorway near Bordeaux, when traveling down from Calais (we have now purchased a spare wheel (horse has bolted maybe)).

Most humorous moment was being told by a butcher in Coimbria that we speak very good english for New Zealanders.

We have been impressed with the friendliness of local people and other motorhomers, particularly the British.

Regards
