This is the tool kit that came with my MH. I am seriously of thinking of taking out the towing eye
and leaving the rest at home.
Instead I plan to replace with a long bar and socket along with a 6ton hydraulic cylinder piston pump.

All of which will be lighter and takes up less room.

Any one else done the same?

I too thought of changing jack but found it difficult to find one that would fit under the van when tyre was flat and had enough travel to lift van high enough to get spare wheel on.
Can you link to replacement jack you have in mind?
On our a class we found the large threaded nut for the towing eye mounted on front of van was loose.......it has adjustment to line up with the hole in bumper.

sometimes its better to have two jacks . specially if you have a flat.some times a very low jack is needed to get the bottle jack under the vehicle .
usually the original jack is ok but the deeper wheel arches on conversions mean you need to jack the body higher so using the axle etc isnt good enough.

you will need to keep the allen key to the right of the jack center if your sparewheel is under the van as thats the tool to lower it cant see the ratchet in that box either so useless unless you have it

If you have a puncture on a toll Autoroute / motorway in France you can't call your own breakdown service. They are not allowed to help you, so the options seem to be: either find a safe (?!) place to change the wheel yourself, not forgetting to wear the Hi-Viz tabard; or call out the very expensive emergency outfit that has sole "depannage" rights, and pay.

I was fortunate that when a tyre blew out I could limp to a motorway aire that was very close by and change the wheel under safer conditions, using the manufacturer's tool kit and jack. In a rainstorm but hey, it saved me mucho Euros so was worth getting drenched!

I intend taking my bottle jack when we go to France next week, it looks the same as the one Jagtazman has, though it's rated as a three ton jack, I'm guessing that just lifting a corner will keep the weight below that, I'll also be taking a proper socket with extension bar etc.. too.

im a not so newbie
Ive recently had to remove our wheel as we had a flat.
Luckily there was a bottle jack in the kit, maybe thats thanks to @Smith and Sharp :)

Luckily again where i was someone also had a bottle jack so i used both for safety and to lift a bit so i could get the other jack under to gain the height i needed (y)

Guess what arrived today? yep another bottle jack, i now have two and feel quite smug.
Hopefully i won't even get a puncture now :D

I'm not sure about the towing eye it does not look like the correct one for an A Class ours is about 8" long.

Not sure about the towing eye, but I have a 5T bottle jack and 2 x 4T axle stands.
All perfect last week when I needed them.

Being marginally decrepit I would always get the breakdown service. I have thought it might be worth carrying a torque wrench, as the breakdown folks would either not have one or not use it if they had. Very rarely use toll roads.

I removed the Fiat toolbox and spare wheel and tyre. The Fiat wheel brace supplied does not shift the wheel bolts even when I jump up and down on it so I carry and extending wheel brace and the towing eye.

So if you have no spare wheel is it OK to remove Jack kit? ie is there a legal requirement?

No legal requirement. Many European MHs do not have a spare. I take a long-arm wheel brace in case it comes in handy  and have a few cans of get-out-of-jail foam.

Two of our cars don't have spares, why carry an extra 30Kg+ in a MH? Most users would struggle to use the jack (because of the vehicle weight or soft ground) let alone undo the wheel nuts (with a torque setting of 180Nm) on a Fiat Maxi chassis o_O

many many years! since I was a kid
beware the standard fiat wheel carrier where fitted as so much crud and wet splashes on the spare tyre that the locknut with plastic housing rusts solid. the only way to remove it that i know of is to destroy the plastic with a hammer and chisel to access the rusty nut. not a job for the pouring rain on the hard shoulder of a motorway. Make it part of the service schedule to remove and grease it once a year in ideal conditions

as for jacks, there are low access high lift bottle jacks available. with any lifting gear, good not cheap----cheap not good

the towing eye for my rapido A class is much longer than the standard fiat ducato van version shown above
