Hi, I am in a spot trying to get somewhere to stay over bank holiday in North East. Visiting family in Sunderland but unable to find any vacancies nearby. Anybody aware of overnight stopovers worth looking into in or around the area?

Yes I have but tried three recommendations and all said don’t do stopovers.

If you are in the C&CC there is a THS at Seaburn, best not leave it too close to the weekend though as I believe it gets busy.

You could use the Durham park and ride at belhaven. No services but it's an option.

We left the Seaburn THS on Wednesday and had to be towed off. We had five fabulous days in the sunshine but Monday brought a huge amount of rain and turned the bottom of the site into a lake. Our empty wastemaster had floated some 20 yards away. They then shut the site to new arrivals so if you fancy this, I'd give them a ring now, see how things are.

Seaburn itself is a wonderful place for a break, loved it and we will certainly return.

Check out Alnwick Rugby Club, but maybe too far?

Seaburn has buses to and from town centre 2 minutes walk from site or a 20 minute walk to Seaburn metro station if making your way to relatives. Nice cafe at the cat and dog stairs or walk round to the glass centre or staying close, Morrisons cafe is 2 mins from site.
