Without knowing the full story it's difficult to comment.
Was this moho insurance and only vehicle ?
I get no NCB with AIB as I have it on car insurance. But it doesn't seem to matter as they assess driving record anyway and have been competitive so far.

Rather dreading February '24 renewal but that's another matter

Absolute beginners.
I have quotes from both of those, and am currently with AIB. However, on a like for like quote, AIB were £60 dearer, claiming their superior service warranted that additional charge. The prices had been much closer till I asked for a 2k Miles extra uplift in my allowance. Having never needed to make use of their " superior " service it would be an unknown, like the cheaper quote from Comfort. Recovery, in both cases is with DAS, delivered by A.A., on a 4 ton vehicle. £ 300.00 UK limit. £5000 Europe. limit.
Both policies are under written by Aviva.
Mike.

I don't quite understand your situation with Comfort. A little more explanation would be useful.

I don't have any no claims on my Comfort insurance. Never have done. They told me they don't do no claims. It's still the cheapest policy out there. Similar situation with my specialist sports car policy. No claims, protected no claims etc - It's all smoke and mirrors.

No they don’t no claims bonus but will give document stating no claims. Just left Comfort after nine years and they sent document stating no claims to that effect and went to Caravan and Motorhome Club for insurance who accepted the nine years NCD for insurance nearly £200 cheaper than Comfort.

The Ombudsman has found in my favour, well nearly, and I now have the 16 years NCD rather than the 2 years they gave me when they refused to renew my insurance.
never going back to them again.
Don't understand your post, Comfort have a net policy they don't give a NCB.

When I joined Comfort I provided them with proof of 16 years NCD from Swinton. When they refused to renew my insurance after 3 years with them they only gave me proof of 2 years. When I complained to them about this they refused to even correct it to 3 years.
I took my case to the ombudsman and now have proof of 16 years saving me £650 on my insurance.
The reason they wouldn’t renew is because I had 2 accidents last year, 1 my fault, 1 50/50, car tried to cut inside me on a tight roundabout.

hi there, we had paid for insurance with Comfort however when we got the info through there was a clause about restriction on claims for loss or damage if left vehicle stored elsewhere than location disclosed for more than 48hrs.
We queried this and they basically said if you parked anywhere else, for example go and stay and friends/parents for xmas, and something happens to van (over 2days) then you wouldn't be able to claim, they then said you have to submit a form every time you go somewhere!! Despite this not being noted on the Campervan product info (see attached)
Basically we went to Cologne in Dec, stayed in hotel for 2 nights and they said we would have to prove we kept popping back to the van to check on it!! needless to say we decided to cancel the insurance and have stuck with Adrian Flux despite being more expensive.

Just a heads up for all with Comfort to check this on their policy (see attached, bottom right)

That is madness, so basically they will only cover you if you don’t leave it for more than 48 hrs, so what about if you have to store it on a storage site, you are not expected to visit it every 2 days . That's crackers 🤪

I saw that when taking a policy with them, but couldn't think of a situation where we would be away in the van and not be in it.🤷‍♂️

If it isn't at the declared overnight storage location then it isn’t covered if it is ‘abandoned’. Why do you think they ask you where it’s normally kept overnight.

Only if it's not a storage site declared on your statement.
Indeed, it’s quite a usual requirement/condition.

Fairly standard clause on most Motorhome policies, I don't see a problem with it. If you do need to leave your van when not using it that's not it's normal storeage place you only need to phone them.
Agreed.

This issue was a bit of a hot topic a few years ago when folks were finding out that if they were leaving their MH at a garage for a few days for work to be undertaken that they weren’t covered (relying on the garage’s insurance for cover).

If storage site is where you keep it then that's normal however if you then bring it home say 3 days before a trip to get ready for your holiday then you have to tell them it's in a different place as they insure it Based on where it is normally kept overnight.

It is only when the van is left unattended, if you have brought it home to load it you will be constantly in & out of it. No different to using it when away apart from you won't be sleeping in it.

But it's not in its usual overnight place so you have to inform them, I have called and asked the question....

We were heading for france last year, while we were away had a new roof on the house, in order to put the scaffolding up on the day before they started the van had to be on the road outside, I had to sleep in the van overnight as it wasnt insured if it was left empty, adrian flux insurance brokers.

It says on the policy if left unattended for more than 48 hours not in the usual place of storage.
So its unattended if just parked up anywhere that's not its usual place?

Quote from latest Comfort Policy.

"Loss or damage covered under section 1 if your
motorhome is stored for a period in excess
or 48 hours anywhere other than the storage
location disclosed to us in your statement of
fact."

I can't see how it would be classed as storage if it was outside your house and you were constantly accessing it to load it.

That's fine if usual place but say fir example you get it out of storage and park at home fir week then that's not usual place. It was just the wishy waffle of proving you checked on it or popped out to van?? Only caused us to rethink because of leaving van in hotel carpark in cologne

Were the van to go "AWOL" under those circumstances I think any insurance company would have a problem not honouring the policy as most Hotels/Chalets wouldn't allow the use of the van as an overnight sleeping area, the van has in effect become your mode of transport, and where else other than the car park would you leave it, take it back home? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️
