396 miles on our new Burstner 726 and the oil warning lights have come on in the multi-function display. First an orange light (not flashing and with an oil can over a wavy line) and then whilst stopped the red check the oil light. Oil pressure light OK. I'm glad it wasn't just me as the RAC technician couldn't check how much oil was in the sump from the dipstick either. The oil was too thin and too new (and too full of diesel?) to cling to it as it was pulled out. He added a little oil but the lights did not go out so he drained three quarters of a litre by undoing the filter and the red light has gone out. He then suggested going to the nearest dealer for an oil change. No one saying yet exactly what the problem might be but some suggesting that DPF regeneration might have been stopped mid-cycle. Idling on quayside during delivery has been suggested by one as the most likely cause as most of our 396 miles were done on the motorway. RAC technician says that the oil level is too high having had a good dose of diesel added during the failed regeneration and this is a problem he comes across all the time with Mazda diesel engines.

Fiat Professional have been very supportive as has the dealer I have taken it to.The supplying dealer suggested the DPF/idling on quayside problem so has probably seen it before. Anyone else had this problem?

Ferry booked this week so I hope they can get it sorted quickly. I won't be idling the engine on the quayside!

So what they are saying is a short period idling will block the DPF enough to cause a forced regeneration.
One failed regeneration shouldn't cause much of a problem, and certainly shouldn't put enough Diesel in the oil to cause dilution to that extent. And even if it had done the oil change warning should have been displayed. Please keep us informed how you go.

what is imperative is that any large increase in the oil level can result in a engine run away! the engine feeds off its oil uncontrollably until it self destructs,
If it's a failed regeneration then the main dealer using software can do a forced one for you,
I am so so pleased i brought a Euro 4 diesel with out all that crap DPF and Addblue additives,
Get in the habit of dropping down a gear on motorways when the engine is hot, above 3000rpm to give the regeneration cycle a chance to work,

In addition to the above, the E.G.R.V. is closed at idle so engine temperature would be higher, making a failed regen' less likely.

A new engine should run thousands of miles before the DPF is so full that a forced regeneration is triggered.

Agreed, I'm surprised variants of Ford's excellent CDPF aren't more common - with a service life of approx' 200,000 km

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. I have learnt a lot particularly how to drive to ensure the DPF stays good and that the oil warning light can mean too much as well as too little oil. I now have the MH back and running well and I was told that the problem was faulty oil condition/ level sensors. It took a week and I had to go by car not MH to Germany which was frustrating (though much much faster:)). Flicking through the handbook of my 5 yr old Honda car whilst waiting for the ferry I actually found the warning light that came on initially before the red light.
It is not in the Fiat handbook (even the Euro 6 update) or known by the RAC technician or obviously initially by the Fiat technicians. Hope it is useful if this happens to anyone else. Picture shows the Honda handbook. It is the second warning down. Thanks again to all who replied. As Vanman said the best excuse to use the MH I could have.

So are you saying that the oil was not over full by dilution with diesel?
As a faulty oil sensor wouldnt cause the oil to be diluted

I was told that it was overfull by the RAC who emptied out some oil and the light did go out. supplying dealer had obviously seen this before but the dealer who did the warranty work said that it was just the sensor. The RAC guy left me the oil he took out because he said that if I needed to I could prove it had been contaminated. Not sure how that would work. Looks like the very thin 0-30 that it is. Just hoping it is fixed now and no damage done.

Keep a close eye on your oil level. Our 2.3 150bhp euro 5+ engines oil is spot on centre between min and max on the stick and hasn't moved in 3000 miles

I’m new to motorhoming and this forum. Our motothome is based on a fiat ducato 3lt engine. 3 months and less than 1000 miles ago had a full mechanical service but I now have an oil light on. Surprisingly the oil needs topping up. Can anyone tell me what oil I need? Thanks

Didn't think the Ducato 3.0ltr was euro 6.
Have you put the correct oil in as the euro6 and 5 are different oils.

Did the service interval and oil change get reset? If you press the mode button a feew times you will get to these, it will say how many miles left before oil change or service, two seperate mileages.
You need a computer to reset them, not all garages have the right one for the ducato.

OP said it was a new Burstener 726 so Fiat engine will be a 2.3 either 130/150/180 my thoughts are should it need a regeneration after only 396 miles?
I think there is a bit more to this than meets the eye

Fiat engine does not have adblue?

Sorry For the confusion I think I should have started a new thread! I am not sure whether they were the service and oil change figures were reset but I think not. But there is still 26k miles to go before the oil needs changing but although the motorhome milage is very low (is only now 2000 miles) because it is 4 years old I thought for peace of mind I should get a full service. Yes dip stick shows I need to top up the oil but I don’t know what oil to buy?

the official FIAT oil is
SELENIA WR FORWARD 0/30
SAE 0W-30

but any 0 - 30 that is ACEA 2 or better should be fine. the garage will have used its standard 0 - 30 bulk oil .

Thanks that really helpful. The dealer gave me 2 Fiat handbooks. One says SAE 5W-30 acea c2 and the others say 0W-30. I have no idea what the difference is that reply is appreciated.

Hi we have a Sep 2019 Burstner Iexo 736. At 1240 miles the low oil pressure warning light failure light came on. Checked the oil level just in case (fine) drove slowly back to cottage, call Fiat assist. They sent a mechanic out next morning started it up no warning light? All systems check all well. Since the low oil level light has come on twice each time stop to check level fine, start up light out. Also transmission warning light gear not available (conformation) twice. each time stop to check, start up again no lights.

SELENIA WR PURE ENERGY 5W30 is recommended for Euro5

Rodders van isnt Euro6 IIRC
