Hi everyone, I'm Adrian and the boss is Avril, just bought an Autotrail Imala and hopefully should have it for Easter or shortly after, was wondering how the seasoned motorhomer transports his/her pets like a labrador ie a crate or by what other means.many thanks in advance

Hi welcome to the forum from us,

we only have a small dog who usually sleeps on the sofa or the floor between the front seats while travelling, we do have a crate that is used at night and sometimes during the day, and during travelling, if required.

Took a while to get him calm, so may need a crate until your dog gets used to the routine, consider a foldable one to store out of the way when not required

    Adrian

Hello and welcome to the Fun!

Our cocker spaniel travels in a soft crate on the floor behind the driver's seat. This doubles as his sleeping quarters so he doesn't jump on the bed and wake us up at stupid o'clock :)

hello head duck.jpg hello and welcome.jpg

You can also get seat belts / restraints for dogs if he would be happier not being in a crate. Our dog hated crates (and howled) but was more than happy with a doggy seat belt. Getting her into a van was easy - getting her out not quite so.

We use a harness and chain connected to an anchor point, it allows the dogs to stand, sit, turn around etc but not fly through the air as a deadly missile in the event of an emergency stop.

As above, our little pooch travels in a collapsible cage, if he suddenly started growing, unlikely I fear at nearly 17, we would use some sort of harness.

    And Welcome!

Welcome to Fun, as for pets same as Wildman, small dog in a harness and secured to a hook behind the cab so she is with us but not around our feet.

:welc: Hello and welcome. We pick up our Autotrail Imala 615 tomorrow morning but it will be next weekend before we get out with our Lab. Our intention is to harness him to the back of our seats. He will be able to stand up, sit or lie down but his movement will be retricted, especially forward in to the cab area. We hired a MoHo last year before deciding do buy and he was very comfortable on the habitation seats with a seatbelt harness. He just slept most of the time. Hopefully, he will do the same with our own van. I will let you know as soon as we have made our first trip with him.
