No reason why not...
Only down side it might not take to kindly to being bounced about in back of moho👍

Thanks for the reply pc. I told my wife I was going to risk being ridiculed but thought it's worth asking what might appear a dumb question. I just don't know enough about the inner workings of the van electrics to know whether or not you just have to have a 12v TV for some technical reason. As regards to being bounced about, there's a dedicated cupboard for the TV with a pull out turntable and straps to tie it down so hopefully not a problem.

Most TV,s also work from 12 volt.,check the back and see if the plug is a transformer plug.it would be useful for it to also work with 12v,when your not on hook up.

Might still want to consider a regulator though. The TV might be expecting a nice clean 12v. Then the sun comes out from behind a cloud and your solar gets over excited and starts pumping 14v through the wires.

I’ve just updated the TV in our MoHo. 12v TV’s haven’t kept up with modern tech. I wanted a 4K 12v TV but they don’t exist. So I’ve gone for a Samsung 4K monitor and running it exclusively with the inverter.

We are at home at present, so I went out to the Motorhome to watch last weekends F1. I have to say, watching in 4K on a decent size 32” screen was amazing!

Pure viewing luxury whilst away from now on!

Used a "normal 19" for many years, never on a site, and with solar panels could easily watch for 2 or 3 hours a night. It was,of course, run through an inverter. Try not to use water pump at the same time as inverter gets a bit fed up 😕.

I have a Samsung 32" smart monitor it doesn't draw much current so works off an inverter or mains, you can stream tv or connect a satellite system to it but it does not have a tuner built in, but a digi box with hdmi output would probably work if you want to watch terrestrial tv. I got mine from ebay as a refurbished one, but it looked brand new in a Samsung box with all the correct bits with it £150

Check the specs of whatever ‘240v’ TV you are intending to use/buy. Many are actually 19v DC and have a 240v to 19v transformer on the 3 pin plug lead.

We have a 22” LG Smart TV/Monitor mounted in the van and power it exclusively from a generic laptop power supply unit fed from a 12v ciggie type socket. Also a Firestick plugged into the USB port on the TV and it all runs perfectly.

I keep hearing this, but my research couldn’t find a HD or 4K monitor or TV in a decent size with this configuration whilst looking recently. ☹️

Possibly because most 12V TVs have smaller screens and 4k/UHD is better on big screens.

I have also just read that 4k/UHD TVs use up to 30% more power than HD ones. 12V TVs for motorhomes and caravans are probably designed to use as little power as possible.

But surely you will not notice the difference with 4k unless you have at least a 50" screen.

I don't really notice much difference on my OLED screen at home but you are a youngster Harvey so you might. :giggle:

Oh it’s marvellous…✔️

32” screen and a noticeable difference between HD and 4K, well to my eyes anyway! 🤪

Yes but mine is just in the larger (mid size) screen grouping at 32”. Agree they will use a little more power, but the trade off seemed worth it! 👍🏻

We have a 240v Samsung which has a great thing called magic angle which means you great a good view of the picture even from low angles, great when lying in bed. The 22 inch TV is vesa mounted on a typical office type monitor arm, which absorbs any bumps when driving.
Together with tiny satellite box and firestick, it covers our requirements. It's been transplanted over several vans now, so reliable at 8 or 9 years old.
