But the dealer should have done a pre delivery inspection before giving it to you so they need to take a bit of responsibility?😊🤔
Only so much that can be checked. Not sure I would check for an oil cap pre-purchase tbh.

They won't have found one. Everytime I have seen this job done the cap gets perched somewhere in the engine bay while the task is done. When the van is driven off it will drop out somewhere enroute.
You might even get lucky and find it lodged somewhere in the engine bay.
I will look tomorrow, but I’m not holding my breath!

IMHO.. if you drove 200miles and no oil pressure warnings appeared ( I assume Ducatos have a low oil pressure warning as reading posts on here they seem to be totally differant to any vehicle I have ever owned) then there was obviously enough oil in engine to do the job.👍👍

My mechanic told me in the 70’s when I asked him which was the best oil his reply was any oil is better than no oil. In my opinion that still stands😜

I have yet to find a service bay that fills an engine to the full mark , most fill to minimum and charge full price, ie Ducati 150 states 7 ltrs but they only put in six, as overfilled can cause problems, I say this as 50 years in the trade it was the same just about everywhere.

Wilmoths in Southampton do they overfilled mine, and with the wrong grade, mines a Euro 6 and they put in 5w 30 not the 0w30 specified, when I questioned it they said the book says 7 litres so that's what they put in.
They weren't to happy about having to drain it and refill.

My wife’s car always comes back from the dealer with about 3/4 litre too much in. When questioned they say that it takes 5.2 litres. I say why don’t you use the dipstick ?
I suck it out with an extractor. Twice that’s happened.

The cap is definitely not on the sump guard.

Can someone tell me if the the sump guard is supposed to be across the whole of the engine bay? This is what I have

But the good news is, the sump plug and oil filter are both tight! 🤔

I suspect the cap is in a grass verge somewhere between the garage and your house...
Hopefully your replacement one arrives today and then everything will be well with the world.

I would look at the oil coating as a "free" rust proof coating :p (y)

On my Peugeot it is the same. You can buy the rest of the bits on EBay. My Euro6 engine has very specific oil requirements according to the Handbook.

Oil 7 litres Total Quartz Ineo First 0W30 & filter change or Shell Helix Ultra Professional AP-L Engine Oil -0W-30

Expensive - two 5litre containers are the best part of £100

Looks to me like the middle section of the under tray is missing ?
Why would a manufacturer fit that offside section of under tray you can see in the pictures, but leave out the middle bit, plus the sump and exposed engine components look fairly clean, almost as if there's been some sort of "shield" protecting them in the past ?
Under trays can be the bane of servicing mechanics, the clips and screws never come out, or go back in easily and some shady mechs will just skip them rather than struggle on with them, I'd be looking to locate a replacement.

Looking on flea bay there’s several options, but in general it looks like I only have the near side section the centre and offside are AWOL. From a quick chat with the guys at google, it’s a common problem. Various MoHos have various bits oresent
