Operation stack is still on between J8 and J9 see here:

P&O ferries are suggesting the M2/A2 route into Dover for non-freight traffic.

I've been keeping a close eye on this, we are sailing to France on Wednesday (hopefully)

Personally I would pick up the A 259 and follow the coast all the way to Dover
Yes it will take longer than the motorways but plenty of places to stop for a brew up and treat it as part of the holiday without the frustrating of parking up on a motorway with no choices other than sit there till it moves again,
If you travel late evening it would probably be quicker than the motorways any way

Ahh I see you are going today! Suggest leaving home shortly, far better to arrive early then be messed about by the ferry companies if arriving late, IMO
