We are delighted our daughter is going to Birmingham University and we will want to visit occasionally. Having trouble finding any permitted over night parking areas - has anyone got ideas please? Grateful for help.

Hello

Do you mean Birmingham University (Edgbaston) or The University of Birmingham (City Centre)?

Here are two campsites we use when visiting Birmingham:
Caravan Club, Chapel Lane, Wythall - Expensive but very good facilities, closest to Edgbaston.
Summers Wood, Meriden - Average price, very good facilities, not too far from the A45 into Birmingham

I don't think that you will find a camp site very close to either.

Good luck and congratulations to your daughter. :)

Have you approached the University itself? They often have discounted accommodation on offer and/or may be able to give you permission to park up somewhere at a hall of residence, or a car park, if it is only infrequently.

A few years now
We have the same problem with Warwick Uni - official line is that they can't even accommodate (even daytime out of term) parking a 6m motorhome even though lots of carparks on campus :( They have corporate style campus accommodation but no discounts & beyond our budget :( Hope @Citysafe you have more luck than us!

We have used a couple of pubs the best being the fleur de lys at lowesonford buy they have stopped accepting more than one motorhome a pity great food nice surroundings and free if eating. Have not stayed near the campus she seems quite happy with short visits!!

Birmingham is not the most friendly place for motorhomes, so you may need to be a bit inventive. If Edgbaston is your target, either the university site or The Vale Campus (next to Chad Valley for all of you funsters with memories of childhood toys), then as already suggested, the caravan club site at Wythall is worth considering. A couple of miles on dual carriageway from J3 - M42. You then will need a bus to get you into the city centre. There is also a railway station called 'University' on the Birmingham Cross City Line, so you could look at somewhere like Bromsgrove, only a 10 minute train ride to the University, but parking always an issue at the stations around Birmingham (no bus park and rides in the city).
If it is City university or Aston university, same problems, the train is best round here, stay out at Warwick or Stratford upon Avon for example and avoid the traffic.

Thank you for all this great advice. It's Edgbaston we are looking at. I have looked at google maps and am going to try a few businesses in exchange for contribution to Christmas beer fund.
