Done Italy several times. The best places we found were the Northern Lakes {Iseo our favourite}, Lucca, Rome, Sienna. Portofino. and the Cinque Terra. We were a little disappointed with Florence but that might be because we had our dog with us and couldn't visit the garlleries etc. Last year we went to Italy and decided to go further south. We got as far as the 'heel' and the 'toe' and found it fabulous. The south is a little poorer but well worth a visit. The links below cover the southern trip in detail but also the lakes.
