Hello.

We have been using the 12v sockets in our van to charge our iphones and ipad without problems to date, using usb adapters, but this evening as I pushed one in there was a crackle and we lost power to the two 12v sockets on the near side of the van. We still have power to the socket on the off side, above the kitchen area.

I’ve checked all the fuses on the EBL-30 transformer/rectifier and none are blown. I’ve checked the circuit breakers under the floor. All other 12v powered items are working fine. I have tried several different usb adapters but there is no power.

I’m a bit stuck now so can anyone advise?

The iPad was not plugged into the cable when I pushed the USB socket in so there may have been a power surge as the iPad wasn’t connected to absorb all the power. This one was a USB C adapter so it pushes out more power than a standard one.

Of course we have just started a two week holiday today and this morning when SWMBO asked me to pack the mains powered USB multi charger I said it wouldn’t be necessary as there are plenty of 12v sockets in the van. Now we only have one working one left and I am being a bit humble this evening as clearly I do not know everything after all.

Sounds the adaptor that made the crackly if faulty and blown the fuse. Have you checked the fuses with a meter as looking at them doesn't always show up a blown one.

Alternatively if could be a lose connection to the socket the crackly was the connection arcing. If the next socket was fed from that one it could have disconnected that one as well. Just take the sockets out and check the connections.

Good point about double checking the fuses and checking to the rear of the socket. Not sure how I remove them but I expect they are just a push fit so should pull off if I am brave enough.

Thinking about it there was a tiny spark from the usb adapter and a “snap” noise from down by the floor where the EBL 30 unit is located under the passenger seat.

highly likely a fuse then and the usb converter is fried

If they are the ones with the thin silver square bezel you to prise the bezel off with a thin blade, I use a thin paint scraper, then there are 4 screws behind it.

I have had almost every wire out and I have mapped out most of the fuses on our 2019 Ayers Rock.

Near side of the van is near to the curb which is passenger side of a right hand drive normal UK configuration but on our Ayres Rock there is only one 12v socket on that side of the van which is above the table of the dinette. Where are yours?

On our 2019 Ayers Rock the EBL30 has 17 fuses. Fuses 1 to 3 are in a block of 3 and fuses 4 to 17 are in a block of 14.

Fuse 8 is for the 12v socket in the kitchen above the sink (offside)
Fuse 16 is for the 12v socket in the dinette above the sink (nearside).
Both are 10A Red fuses.
Fuses 9, 10, 11, and 12 are all 10A Red fuses which are all spare unless you have equipment that we don't have.

Check fuses 8 and 16 very carefully visually and preferably with a continuity checker. Fuse 12 is designated Spare 1 so you could pull Fuse 12 try this fuse in either position 8 or 16.

Hi

We have two sockets on the near side, one above the table and one on the bottom of the top cupboard above the passenger seating. It faces downwards.

Thank you for this, it was fuse 16. Confused how I missed that last night as I pulled them all, but tired after a four hour drive can be my excuse for that.

FYI your helpful description mentions both sockets as being above the sink.

Knowing 8 & 16 is wonderful, counting left to right. Thank you.

What I have learnt from this is that we have to ignore the wording on the EBL 30. I attach a photo.

The blown fuse, supplying the 12v sockets, is described on the box as being “Pumpe 7.5a”. Well both water pumps were working just fine. Fuse 6 has a 2a fuse in it which I discovered protects the Truma control box, yet the wording on the EBL 30 says “”Grundli. 4A“ (as opposed to 4B) and is marked as being for a 25a fuse.

If you know what each fuse is responsible for on our Ayers Rock’s it would be a great help to all of us if you could list them.

The fuse descriptions on the EBL30 are all mixed up but I think you identified the wrong fuse because it should be Fuse 16 10A Red which is marked TV on the EBL 30. When I removed the cupboard over the dinette there was a spare wire with an unused connector behind which is possibly for powering a TV.

This is what our dinette looks like right now and it all needs to be put back for going away on Thursday. You get a lot more storage space if you remove the back of the cupboards.

Do you have a 12v socket in the offside corner at the rear of the bedroom? Originally there was a blanking plate at this position and I was going to run wires to add a socket but when I removed the blanking plate I found a set of wires already in place to connect up. Same Fuse 8 as kitchen 12v socket.

I have attached 3 documents to help with Hymercar Ayers Rock electricals.

Many thanks. You are correct it was the one marked TV. The angle of the photo misled me.

We do have a blank at the rear and also one in the mirror fronted cupboard in the bathroom. I’ll investigate to see if there is wiring behind. Where did you purchase your switch’s/plugs? I will be installing an awning light switch with an indicator as we too leave that external light on occasionally and it is too easy to switch it on by accident, just leaning on it as you pass by.

Thank you for the diagrams.

I see that you have the tv aerial signal and satellite signal connectors. Do you have those services installed on the roof?

Inside our mirror cabinet as supplied from new is a single upside down 13A socket which I use to charge my shaver and electric toothbrush when we are on hook up . It may not be very safe to have a 13A socket in the cabinet as it is effectively inside the shower.

The Hymercar Ayers Rock electrical outlets look a little special because of the Inprojal squared off chrome bezels but the actual appliance units are standard CBE/C-Line. A company called Clearcut Conversions Ltd on Amazon can supply the chrome bezel and electrical parts but I haven't been able to find the switches in the exact same style as the Ayers Rock.

Click me (How can I link to stuff in Amazon?)

This is what I used to add an LED indicator to the awning light switch. The wiring was a little tricky because to power the LED I had to borrow a -ve wire from the step switch.

Morning.

We have nothing mounted on the roof and in ignorance thought that the TV sockets would already be connected to an aerial of some sort, similar to the hidden DAB aerial for the radio, and I thought it might be the wasp aerial on top of the cab as a basic aerial, but all there is is an input on the socket on the wall above the folding table which then connects to the TV sockets elsewhere in the van. So you’d need to plug in an external aerial into this socket, potentially trailing the cable out of the side window if you were to attach it externally. We did try this and it worked.

I am not sure what I expected. I guess you can connect an aerial into any of the TV sockets to share the signal around but this one actually has a picture of a TV aerial on it. We have nothing on the roof as we have the raising roof.

Thanks for the links to the switches.

I have just noticed this white box fitted under the upper edge of the side window above the folding table. An aerial perhaps?

Been moho’ing for a time now
When we got ours I changed all the fuse to “led” fuse’s, so now if one blows the led lights up, handy if anywhere in the dark, good luck, we had a thread sometime back about this thing, possible an aerial, I can’t remember ?
