- 40 years under canvas: Motorhome 2016 To 2020
Hi to all.
after much searching on internet, at last we came across this fabulous forum which has a wealth of helpful information, advice, and a really good "feel".
Following on from many years of camping under canvas, now I'm in my mid 50's and retired, its probably time we grew up and got a motorhome! We were becoming increasingly envious o folks in motorhomes and campers during a recent trip to North West Scotland, where we endured biblical levels of rain and howling gales....Although our tent didn't leak, the rising groundwater was a bigger problem so when we returned, we took the bull by the horns...
When I was in my youth, my parents had a VW bayfront type 2 Westphalia, then a couple of further VW campers and it wasn't until they were well into their 70's that they stopped. So an upgrade to a motorhome from canvas was psychologically a very easy step....
Over many years of a general interest in motorhomes, we had a fair idea of what we might fancy so after a final bit of research and looking around we have gone off the deep end and specced up & ordered a Hymer Mli 580. There are only 2 of us (plus 2 greyhounds who LOVE camping) so we didn't really need the 4 berths that the 580 gives us, but did very much fancy the fixed single bed layout that the 580 gave.
The hard part now is a long wait until Q1 2016 when we take delivery of Millie (as she has been called), although it gives us a lot of time to plan where we will be going next year and beyond. So far we have so many ideas we're going to have to start thinning them down or sell everything and become full timers
No doubt we'll be posting a host of dumb questions, but meantime very much enjoy trawling through the pearls of wisdom and wit on the forum.
