Help pls; Best way to charge my Toshiba laptop via 12v. (1 Viewer)

We're off on April 4th, our first MoHo tour,,, getting everything ready is now getting serious.
I guess this question has been asked many times,,, sorry,,, here it comes again...
How do I charge my Toshiba "C50 D-B-120" when no EHU is available.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Tip for anybody else looking. Just put in the name a number of the name and number of your laptop followed by "12V" in the Amazon search engine and up will come one of those specially for your model. I have done that for the last 2 laptops I have had plus a tablet that needed 15V. Always got the same Lavolta make and had no problems with all three of them.

You need to buy a 12v connector for it - look for your model on Ebay and see if you can find one.

I've got a 20,000 power bank. Got it off Amazon and cost around £15.00. Charges my phone, tablet and Bluetooth earpiece at the same time if needed and quicker than mains or 12v. 3 USB ports. Always carry it.

That won't work for most laptops, which need higher voltages to charge than USB.

I used to have a 12v charger for my laptop but i bought a cheap one and it stopped working after a month or so, I doubt I'll buy another. Whenever we are on the move, we ensure the inverter is on and everything is recharged, laptops, tablets, phones, vacuum cleaner etc.

We have a couple of these for phones, headsets etc. They really come in handy, they will recharge an ipad or phone a number of times. If you are going away for the wekend you'll not have to mess with recharging from the ciggy socket, you can also take them with you on long days out so you know you'll not run out of power.

I charge my Toshiba with a dedicated 12 volt charger from Maplins. 12 volt in and I think 19 volt out. No problems whatsoever.

Yes, that was another thing with mine, it did hammer the battery a bit, especially when the kids left it on. Thinking about it, if you are only going to use them when travelling then you might as well buy a small inverter and use that, the inverter will be of use for other items too.

Some of the 12v laptop chargers are variable voltage and have multiple laptop plugs. Worth checking that the available output voltage matches your device and that one of the plugs is the correct one.

It's best to use the device on its own battery for as long as possible to reduce the drain on your leisure battery. Also, if you have a solar panel it makes most sense to recharge the laptop around the middle of the day when more power is available, rather than overnight.

Slightly off the point, but unless you really really need a laptop, why not think about getting a refurbished iPad ?
They don't have to be expensive, can do most things that a laptop can do in terms of mail, internet and office type apps (with Google apps..) and can generally be charged on the go from a cigarette lighter adapter.
IMHO of course....

As said before it only has 5V/4.5V USB outlets which are not suitable for most laptops.

Maplins dont seem to do the one I have now, but I have had it some years. This seems to be the replacement and covers most laptop voltages.

i bought a universal charger a couple of years ago whilst in spain to charge my toshiba satalite. It has multiple plugs that fit on the end for most makes of laptop. It worked well and as the M/h is outside the house at the moment I'll dig it out shortly and have a look, I'm sure I've seen the same sort of thing in uk.

Yes the link works. But it does not seem to be the one for the Toshiba C50 that the OP has. The one in post #2 is the correct one.

I was trying to point yup in the specif direction of Lavolta - you will need to do a specific search with your laptop model number to see if they support your laptop model. Sorry for the confusion.

What you have to remember is the Toshiba Satellite laptops are very power hungry and if my memory serves me right need 19 volts. Before I bought the Maplin one I tried one of the cheapies and no way would it drive my Toshiba. If you take your laptop into Maplins they will make sure which charger and plug are suitable and up to the job. With an item like a laptop charger which you are only going to buy once its best to make doubly sure its right for the job. I needed a new battery for my laptop after a couple of years hard work and tried 3 from ebay before giving up and biting the bullet for a genuine Toshiba one at mega money.
