just arrived at Burnham on Sea, just a quick stop before hitting the bitzmeister @eddievanbitz for tomorrows battery monitor fitting. Main car park off South Esplanade has 15 dedicated Motorhome / minibus bays and only charge the same as a car. £1:60 for two hours. More than enough. No cooking or overnight camping allowed - signposted to that effect as well.

Their loss, our loss. We must be terrible people.

Why their loss? The bays are apparently well used during the day (as intended) and then people drive off to pay for camping on a caravan site instead of eating food from home in the car park :)

We're not all terrible though. Some of us don't try to encourage people to spend their money in that other "B" :D

The longer people stay on site the more they spend locally. Pubs and restaurants in Southport benefit greatly from Pleasureland parking.

I have no doubt that some people will spend money locally (as we tend to do) but I wonder how widespread that is and how many don't.

The MCC approached Sedgemoor Council about three and a half years ago about using the Burnham on Sea car parks for overnight camping and were unable to make a convincing case. Earlier this year, of course, there was the story about abuse of street parking spaces (not fully accurate of course but there was at least one mention of unauthorised topping up water tanks from private taps).
