We are off to France in August. We plan to use an Aire on they way down from Chergourg to Bordeaux area. This will be our first motorhome in France trip without booking sites before traveling.

My question is this. Is it wise to not have anything booked or will we be left with the choice of the poorer sites as it is August.

    Thanks

Although now the kids are off hand we usually stay at home in August, For many years we used to tour France for the whole of August. We never booked and never found a site that couldn't take us. We couldn't book anyway as we never planned a route either, just went where the whim took us. :thumb:

For July and August i would book a site as the whole of europe appears to be off for those two months, especially if you want a site with 'things to do' on it should you have children with you. Must admit we tend to go before or after the july/august holiday rush now the kids have all left home.

We have been touring in France in August the last couple of years with the kids.

Never booked any sites in advance and have never had a problem finding a space on a site. We have a "rough" plan in mind where we will go before we leave UK, but sometimes we end up going off on a tangent. Occasionally we will use a nice aire, another day we may look for a nice site with something suitable for the kids demands.

Every time we have rang up a site, either just on the day or at best the day before, we always got a pitch.
We don't like to book in advance because then we are free to do as we like, as the itinerary is not then fixed, so you can turn left or right any time you feel like it. Maybe if its hot you want somewhere with a pool or by the beach for the kids, or whatever takes your fancy...

If we find a nice spot we like, we may stay a day or two more than we initially thought.
We just like the fexibility that motorhome touring gives us..... That's the joy..

I should have said "no kids" just too adults who are happy to chill out near a village.

You need to come and see us - a tranquil site near a village with an excellent bar/restaurant ("pizzas to die for" as well as other meals. 15th August is a bank holiday - even our little village has a carnival procession! We're not an aire, just a small brit-owned campsite where you can crash out and just enjoy rural France. Plenty of pics on www.parcverger.com and there's a discount for Funsters too.

The coast will be crammed - avoid it and come inland for the best locations in the peak periods if you are content with peaceful situations.

Wherever you go, though, enjoy your touring and this beautiful country.

Thanks for the offer Bob & Di

Your park looks great and well priced.

We have been in Limousin area quite a bit already as my parents live in Eguzon (A20 junction 20). We will be in touch if we do decide to travel in that direction.

    Thanks again
