Formatting fail on my Avtex (1 Viewer)

Wanted to use the record function on our Avtex circa 2015 model. I used a brand new San Disc 8gb usb drive.
Followed the instructions to format. Gives option of FAT32 or fast something. Tried both but get a FAIL message. Tried both of the USB ports with the same result,
Any ideas? TIA.

Have you tried formatting it to FAT32 on a pc and then plugging it into TV?
It may already be formatted to an unrecognisable format so TV can't access it?

Thank you for this. When we get back from touring Wales I’ll try as you suggest.
We’ve just arrived at our site in N Wales and as it’s pouring it down making a tour of the town unlikely, I’ll try a few more times here in the van.
