the engine on my fiat ducato 2.4 diesel is making a whineing whistle type noise
the questions are:

doesnt seem to be getting worse

a,should i worry

b,is it the fan belt (and should i always carry a spare just in case)

C, is it something else????

if it is the belt it can be confirmed by sprinkling a little talcum powder in the belt.
If the noise stops, it's the belt.

Not sure if yours is turbo charged, but that can make a whistling noise which changes pitch with engine speed.

Could also be a bearing on the alternator, water pump or belt tensioner.

Sounds like you have a leak on the aftercooler, is it worse under load.

If so you just need to tighten the hose clips up a bit.

Had a similar problem on my van. The top inter cooler hose had a small split in it. It had rubbed against the top of the radiator. Hope you get it sorted
