Can I just be clear about this, you are putting less oil in the gearbox?

No it is more oil than originally specified in handbook

My mechanic mate replaced our 5th gear and synchro set on our 99 2.8TDi for me, about 3-4 x years ago. He then raised the vehicle at the front, to allow a slight overfill of semi synthetic gear oil. Job done and no problems since.
I arrived at his for 12.00 hrs, and was test driving the MH by 13.15 hrs.

More 3.75 litres we had ours done as a precaution & drop down to 4th on hills to allow for lubrication of 5th, also I never engage 5th untill the gearbox is fully warmed up & the engine temp is at normal.
