Shielings Holidays are looking for Assistant Wardens. It's a bit of a strange site - we stayed there in September - but a great opportunity!

Here's the email I got today:

David and Moira are looking for up to 4 Assistant Wardens from March to October inclusive.

TripAdvisor gave us Certificates of Excellence for 2014, 2015 and 2016. Please help keep up the good work.

Beautiful site, and a very rewarding job, bringing much pleasure to many people - www.shielingholidays.co.uk. The wildlife is fabulous.

Terms 5 days pw; £1500 pm, including pitch; and accommodation for discussion.

To apply, please email CVs, referees and a photo of all people and pets coming. How soon could you start?

And if you can't come to work, please come on holiday. Why not escape to a better world?

Us too but we've so much booked this year too. It would be hard work work but lovely location.

I wouldn't think it would be each as campsites jobs aren't always paid the best, if you work it at minimum wage for 40 hours a week that would come in just under £240 PM then you pitch plus facilities.
If it was Per person that's £3k for a couple with no bills that's a good deal.

We visited last year and it was a little weird in that you have to sit down at a PC in the foyer and enter all your details yourself before you booked in. Wasn't cheap either at abt £25 night if you wanted EHU!

just looked at the website and they have a picture of using a camping gaz stove inside a tent which i would think is dangerous They actually tell you in the text to cook inside?

If you compare against similar warden positions I think the £1500 is the total for 4 people as it says 'up to 4 assistants needed' which would make it £750 per couple and that's about the norm.

I think you will find that it is £1500 per person per month. If you had your own van/caravan it would also include the pitch and electric.

Also would more than likely accept a single person on their own, not just couples.

It must be £1500 per person per month including your pitch, plus accommodation if you need it (eg if you need a caravan to stay in etc) ... I would think it'll be lovely at times but if you are working for 5 days inclusive what you would do with your 2 days off .... even assuming they are together it could be the problem as you wouldn't really have time to go anywhere. But if you just want to stay on Mull that would work very well but no hours are given, just days and those days could be long and hard work.

If a couple they would have the same two days off. Plenty to see and do. Right next to the ferry terminal to Oban so could explore that area as well. Weather can be a problem, not unusual to be wearing a woolly hat and stoking the log burner up in July.

If its one couple on on their own the hours could be 8-8 and then on call with a late night walk round at 10:30pm, if its 2 couples on together one set would be early, 8-5 and the other set 11-8 then on call-10:30pm.
Its hard work but a good earner for a couple if you just wanted to save some money for further travels.

Biggest part of the job would be cleaning. There are two self catering cottages and 13 self catering Shielings (tents) with a any day arrival for them it could mean changovers everyday throughout the busy period.

The above hours are based on my time there so may have changed since then but gives a guide.

Well not knowing how big the site is, if the 1500 is per assistant that works out roughly to 8000 per month outlay on salaries alone. Or to put it another way it means the site will have to have 11 or 12 vans every night of the month to break even assuming that the fees are 25 per night.

I would think on those back of a fag packet calculations that it would be for a couple.

Having not seen this seasons contracts I can only comment on previous experience. I worked the summer season May-September 2011 and then it was £1200 per person per month so pretty sure it will be £1500 per person per month.

It's the only decent campsite on Mull that we found. I would think it would be very busy in the summer months.
