I was told we were going to have an extra bank holiday this year for something or other. Anyone know if it's true?

Conservative Andrew Rosindell said it would be a missed opportunity if there was not an extra day's holiday this year to mark the Queen's 65th year on the throne.
Romford MP Mr Rosindell raised the issue at Westminster and the motion was unopposed by MPs.

Normally 8 bank holidays between 1st April and 31st March but due to Easter this year and next it alters the numbers.
Have a look for yourself.
I only know as it is relevant to the holiday rules for employees as they must have at least 28 days.

My point exactly as they keep promising more bank holidays but government don't pay for them not only the wages you have to pay out but lost production and earnings with out earnings how do we afford to pay for bank holiday

while we are on a roll here, how many of the few of you that are still gainfully employed realise the SSP (statutory sick pay) which sounds for all the world like a state benefit, is paid wholly by the employer and cant be reclaimed, other than a little bit of corporation tax relief

if I knew then what I now know now I would never have bothered employing anybody

You're lucky - neither of us get ANY holidays now, let alone Bank ones. They all stopped abruptly when we left work and retired, it's abysmal ........

I appreciate that but I meant in the bigger picture. When a Government makes a decision, we all pay in one way or another. Ok, maybe the down at heel employers in cash but in turn the cash laden employees will pay in another way.
I don't get paid for holidays anyway but that's our agreement

And the even more stupid 48% of the British population. It really shocked me to find out that an incredible 48% had the temerity to want to Remain. Yep, day of mourning.

Well, as a celebration for the previous year then a Friday would be good. As a holiday to celebrate Her Majesty, then probably a Monday or Friday would work and I think better to keep away from the 23rd June as it would be seen as celebrating Brexit. I can see the point about 23rd April but it's a Sunday and Bank Holidays aren't on Sundays and I'd rather not have a floating day as it's awkward for everyone if it happened on days other than Friday or Monday. (See, thinking of the hard pressed down at heel employers here).
