Tried to run the hab heating today - selected "Diesel" on the Combi control panel and pressed the "Heating" button. The diesel heater started up and emitted a vast cloud of smoke / fumes smelling strongly of diesel. The heater spooled up and then slowed down - the exhaust cleared and the heater unit spooled up again. This time it slowed down and then stopped. I waited 5 minutes or so but nothing else happened (apart from the annoying dripping noise emanating from the anti freeze container). Has anyone ant idea as to what may be wrong? The Eberspacher handbook / manual simply states that I should remove the control fuse and take it to the nearest authorised dealer.
As our moho is still under warranty, I will contact the vendors tomorrow but I would still like to have some idea as to what is wrong before I pay them a visit.
Forewarned is forearmed ;)

We had this problem with an Eberspacher on our canal boat. It was nearly new at the time. It turned out the original cause was lack of battery voltage at start-up, causing it to go through the start cycle then not fully fire before shutting down. After it was dismantled and thoroughly cleaned, then started from a well charged battery, all was okay. We learned after that, to always start the engine and get a good battery voltage before starting the Eberspacher.
Hope this helps.

As Tizzy says, try switching it on with the engine running, sounds like you didn't have sufficient amps to run its glow plug and it's combustion fan ?

Yes I read on a German forum that getting the best diesel does pay in the running of diesel heating. Probably keeps vehicle engine in better nick too?

Tried to run the diesel heater with the moho engine running but it won't even go through the start up sequence.
Turned the engine off, re-connected the hook-up and it fired up - same smoke clouds, same sequence to failure.
Awaiting return phone call from the dealer's engineer.

On to the low amps suggestion - the engineer advised me to connect my spare (new) leisure battery to one of the existing pair of leisure batteries via some jump leads to up the available power, but still the same result - lots of smoke but no poke
Did manage to get the heating system running off hook-up power - some numpty had forgotten to turn on the heating's main power switch!
Moho going back to the dealers next week for remedial action to the diesel heater. (y)
It's a very steep learning curve but hopefully the summit is in reach.....................

I feel your pain. We have a Truma combi diesel 4 boiler and just after 2 days use it's pack up with white smoke coming out of the flue. Been in touch with Truma and our van converter and we need a new boiler as there's a problem with the circuit board not much good when we're into a 2 month trip to Spain but ok on hook up. Just a bit frustrating.

MoHo back at the dealers who have sent it on to a diesel heater specialist for repair / replacement (probably repair).
Funny how they never noticed this fault during the month they had it between us paying for it and actually collecting it after it had been "fully serviced & checked")
