I need to ask a very dumb question please. If I plug in the mains lead with 3 pin plug to home supply and plug other end in to motorhome, will this charge batteries or just let you run appliances? Do I have to do anything other than plug it in - switches etc?

On our MH, connection to EHU charges the leisure battery & if the habitation power selector switch is on, the fridge, t.v. & mains sockets etc will be powered by the mains supply.

It will work as normal.

You just need to remember that you will have a slightly reduced supply compared to a site (13A as opposed to 16A)

As your van is a Chausson it should charge the batteries when plugged in. You may want to check it charges the starter battery as well, most modern vans do.

How do I check it charges the starter battery? Some way other than starting the vehicle?

You only have to ask(y)(y)
Have a look at your control panel it should tell you the state of your batteries there.

If you don't already have one, a multi meter is a simple way to check which, if any, battery is being charged (sometimes on-board meters can be confusing/inoperative) Just a couple of quid on Ebay and would be a very useful addition to your tool box.

Or you could ask Santa for one of these as long as your cigarette lighter socket runs off the cab battery.

I've had it plugged in and on the control panel, the leisure battery shows as fully charged but the vehicle battery has gone down a little. Does it charge one at a time, i.e. so if I leave it on charge it will now charge the vehicle battery as the leisure one is full? (multi meter arrival pending...!)

We have a changeover switch on our Bolero so we can assign the charge as needed, make sure the battery charger is switched on though.

A fairly normal arrangement that once the leisure batteries are 80-90% charged the charger then puts a trickle charge of 2-4 amps into the starter battery. The charger manual should give you the info.
If the starter battery voltage is dropping it may not be getting charged from the on board charger if that is the case it would be worth fitting one of these relays.

...... or one of THESE from @eddievanbitz with a Funster discount.(y)

Although probably not necessary as your charger is almost certainly designed to charge all batteries.

They are a tad more expensive.

Sorry, but you dont.
The house ring main breaker is 32amp unless its a radial circuit where it will be 16amps.
The only thing restricting the supply is the 13amp fuse within the plug but they can usually take a bit more for a short time before blowing

And a lot of sites don't have 16 amps either.

Several years now
We have a Flash 10 also. When you plug it into the mains the engine battery will be charging. To get the leisure battery to charge you have to switch on the main hab power, this is the top right switch on your control panel above the door, brings on a blue led. If you don't put that switch on, hab batteries ain't charging. The control panel does give a rough indication of the state of charge of both batteries, but it's a rough reading.
