Finally bought an Owl Wireless Energy monitor from Argos, took all of ten minutes to fit and it works a treat .. instantaneous reading of kw and a kw total .. too many other functions for my use, tariffs, green house gas etc .. etc :thumb:

So hopefully, no more tripping the 16A breaker ..

looks a useful bit of kit Jim.

how do you hook it up.......at the consumer unit.....at a socket....????

might be worth buying for home use then maybe we can cut our £450+ leccy bills.:thumb:

Hi John

I put the sensor at the input to the consumer unit on the live core of the EHU cable..

It's really good, it's amazing to see how the different accessories/appliances affect the load, also the ones that cycle on and off, like the fridge, coffee machine, oil heaters etc..

Great bit of kit.. well worth every penny.. :thumb:

hi jim,

bought one yesterday...:thumb:

using it in the house at the mo.

becoming paraniod now.....turning things off, checking what things use...bloody scary when you start checking. :whatthe:

just a shame it doesnt have amps function....pain in the neck converting watts/kilowatts to amps.
doesnt really matter at home but on site it will be needed.

at this moment in time the house leccy is costing us 11.1p per hour:winky:

cheers for the heads-up...

john.

Hi John ..

yes shame about not showing amps, however, on a 16A EHU a simple calculation gives you the max load . of 3.68 kw so it's easy to see how much you are using .. and how much spare capacity is left ..

Pro rata for a 10 or 6 amp ehu

I've set the audible alarm to 3.5kw .. it has gone off numerous times and saved me having to go and reset the breaker.

The alarm uses is a monetary value, so for easy calculation I set the tariff to 10p and then set the alarm to go off at 35p .. which equals 3.5kw

The running total is also enlightening .. we are averaging 50kw per day ..
