Hi All
I have an Iveco motorhome classified and taxed as a motorhome and goes through mot as a class 4.
The rervenue weight in the reg doc is 10000 kgs andI would like to downrate this to 7500kgs any ideas please.
Hi, chasser . I would go to a weighbridge first to see if it is feasable, Having just done the reverse process when i couldnot make the 7.5 limit . cheers bill.
not a straightforward job and sounds expensive....
have a read here from the SVTech website...
Rigid vehicles of GVW 12000kgand under are not usually downplated for the purpose of reducing the excise duty. This class of vehicle is capable of being downplated to 7500kg, thus taking it out of the HGV class for driver licensing purposes. There are in addition certain vehicles which can be down-rated from 13000kg to 7500kg.
In order to down-rate to 7500kg, physical changes must be made to the vehicle in order to reduce the design weight ( Note that here we have to reduce the design weight, whereas artics and heavier rigids are down-rated by reducing the plated weight ).
There are numerous ways in which the design weight may be reduced but modifications to suspension and braking are the most common.
Our specialist service covers almost every vehicle model, from every manufacturer, produced during the past twenty years.
Customisation of the conversion kit supplied by us is achieved by calculation from suspension and brake data supplied in most instances by the vehicle manufacturer direct to us and is dependant upon the individual characteristics of the particular model.
Plus...if you down plate it then you will loose 2500kg of payload which may mean stick your usual traveling kit in and you're over the weight limit.
Thanks all for you help have spoken to SV tech very helpful the all I need is a weigh bridge ticket, copy of reg doc, the details from the vehicle plate and £100.00 they sort the rest and when I get receive the new plate a trip to dvla sorts it.
