    hi, anyone used this company?

    What was it like?

I presume you are all strangers at the start, do you end up as friends?

(Crossings offer small guided tours to France, Italy and Scandinavia)

    Hi Mousey.
Yes we went to Provence with them earlier this year.
We enjoyed meeting the others on the trip, most of which were either newbe's to motorhoming or to driving in Europe, or both. It was more suited to them and their needs. We are experienced motorhomers so much of what was offered we did not need. We found the trip too rushed, could have been 3 weeks rather than the two as it did not give us a lot of time to enjoy the areas that we stopped in.
We did make some new friends and that's why we went in the first place.
The guides ( company directors) were good, they looked after everyone, helping to sort out any issues and concerns that some guests had.
In all, it was a good holiday and many said they would go with Crossings again. We have now done two escorted motorhome tours and doubt we would do another.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks @Old Soldier thats good info. I've downloaded a couple of their tours and was wondering about the timings.
I suppose it's pot luck who you end up with.
I can see it being attractive to newbies as you have the security of the guides, we've a couple of trips under our belt so maybe we just have to do more research and try and be more organised next time!

We have looked at Crossings tours but are favoring the C&CC tours as they seem to also include organised trips to nearby visitor attractions, which are very useful when in a motorhome

Thought your last trip was very organised, you could run one of these tours with your eyes shut, and give a good write up to boot(y):)

The thought of an organised tour horrifies me! It's half the fun for us not knowing where we're going - we make decisions on a day to day basis so sometimes we end up zigzagging around France or Germany. The only organisation we do is book the tunnel!

Thanks @chaser I felt there was probably loads we missed and the little bits like the sat nav failing and charge leads braking etc made it feel a challenge not a holiday

We are off again end of Aug for 2 weeks, I'll keep you posted, this time we have another Funster couple for company...

I understand where you're coming from, I'm quite controlling so the thought of being told what to do doesn't sit well with me, but sometimes I get fed up with making all the decisions and just letting someone else be in charge appeals.

If anyone wants a Rufty Tufty, Off-Site, Freeloaders' Tour of Portugal, I know someone who could arrange one... ;)

From Spanish border at Vilar Formoso (100 kms from Salamanca) to the Algarve via...

Lakeside aire at Malcata. (Water, loo, dump facilities).

On to private orchard near Figueira dos Vinhos. (Water. Dump nearby)

Down to wide river park up near Pont de Sor. No facilities.

Onward to lakeside near Alcacer do Sal.
Rui's bar and restaurant, highly recommended. (water, dump, very basic shower)

Next stop Lakeside at Monte Rocha and the "Chicken Lady's" very spicy chicken dish. (No facilities)

Then down to Silves (or the nearby lake).

And ending up in Praia da Rocha, beachside in the Algarve.

    Very, very, very reasonable fees.

    Route highly flexible...

No site fees at all unless you choose to pay for campsite for washing etc, until Praia da Rocha.

(No PMs... All queries and discussions on the open Forum please)

The fact you missed things makes it possible to return again and again. If you exhaust an area chances are you may never return.

Sounds lovely, just need to absolve our responsibilities to give us the time to really enjoy it.

What time of year would you recommend @JJ?

We have booked their Rhine and Moselle tour for next May. We have driven in France quite a bit but never Germany. We thought we would try it and see what we thought, the ferry tickets are flexible so we will add a week or two in France at the end. The owner Wendy phoned us to double check that we were still happy to go despite the fact that she and her husband were not leading this one. It might not be our cup of tea but we will only know if we try it. We didn't think rallies would suit us but we have thoroughly enjoyed them.

Difficult thing to predict what the mix will be like. We've had loads of holidays with friends, sometimes with surprising results especially when loads of kids are involved. Just dipping our toe into adult only hols.

You find out a lot more about people when you're travelling together.

Brave @carolyn please report back and let us know how you get on?

I expect you will find, like we did on both our motorhomes tours a mix of like minded people who are not just on the tour for guidance, but also for friendship. We didn't have anyone who we did not like or not want to meet again. They were from all walks of life, some, like us older, some middle aged and even a young couple or two. I would be surprised if you did not get on.
Do you know who is leading your tour if it is not Bob or Wendy?
Look forward and enjoy, Rhine and Mosel are great places to go.
