Morning everyone, we are planning to drive from Manchester, via Broadway, through Devon (possibly Ilfracombe area?) and Cornwall next April. We'll only have the motorhome for the week, so it'll be a bit of a whistle-stop tour and I already know that driving in the area can be "interesting"
My question is........ are there places that must be seen, and are relatively easy to access/Park.
Similarly, are there places that must be avoided at all costs?
We'll be in a swift edge 464, will be staying on mostly club sites, and are relatively new to motorhoming.
Looking forward to your words of wisdom 🙂

Invest in a good satnav that can be configured to avoid local roads. Co-pilot and Mapfactor are both good at this. Don't rely on Google Maps it will send you down roads you will regret going on:LOL:
Godrevy has a large open field carpark with access to the beach but the lane is long and narrow, It's National Trust owned, best advice is to get there early and stay until late.

Godrevy

Apart from Easter, April should be OK.
Rules:
Always be prepared to reverse.
Avoid rubbing that nice green grass covered bank... there is probably granite underneath.

We always park up and hire a car or use buses. Easier on the nerves. Beech Motors of St Austell are good for car hire, and Doubletree Farm a good stopping point when in that area.

Further down we go to Stream Valley where there is a good bus service a 10 minute walk away.

Loads and loads to do down there. If you have never been, Eden Project is a must. Free attraction maps often with discount vouchers are everywhere.

Using the Moho for local transport can be difficult with town or beach parking nigh on impossible. Lots of car parks do not allow Moho parking at all, or seriously increase the price.

Do not rely on blue badge of you have one. Cornwall blue badge residents get benefits the rest do not.

It's a lovely county. 😀

"Cornwall blue badge residents get benefits the rest do not"
Is this the case or just hearsay?

Definitely not hearsay. There are many places where only previously registered blue badge holders with a Cornwall address get a concession, and some, none registered blue badge holders cannot use the disabled bays. Falmouth is a good example.

Driving from Manchester to Cornwall via Broadway and Ilfracombe and then back again in a week is not going to allow much time in Cornwall. It's a very long county and the farther west you go, the more challenging the roads can be in a motorhome once you leave the few major roads. Maybe stick to the western end of Cornwall on this trip? As a generalisation, the north coast is rugged and windswept and the south coast is more sheltered. As mentioned above, Looe and the Eden Project are fairly easy to visit but use public transport to access the smaller towns and harbours. Godrevy is lovely in good weather but is farther west. Cornwall is a wonderful county (I lived and worked there for years) but you'll need more than a few days to see much of it.

Thanks for that..............yes it is a bit of a whistlestop, but as you say, perhaps the Devon/Cornwall border is more realistic. I think this will be the precursor to a longer trip at a later date :)

More than toes wet now!
Always good……until you meet a bus coming the opposite way…….!!! o_O o_O ;)
You're obviously not sneaky enough!
Not sure it is still the same today but about 5-6 years ago (and further back) when travelling from Kingsbridge to Start Bay (where the tank salvaged from the sea is) you download a copy of the bus timetable and wait for the bus departing and then follow it through the narrow lanes. The driver knows when his compatriot coming the other way is getting close and pulls over to let him passed. You just pull in behind him and laugh at the cars that try to overtake you and then have to reverse back to let the bus through!
When returning it works in reverse with you getting "priority"!(y)
