Looking at panel van conversions, new or nearly new, is there any difference between the Citroen and Fiat offerings reliability, quality wise, Citroen seem to do a 163 PS power one but its only a 2.0L.

They do one with the heavy chassis too, is this one the equivalent of the Fiat maxi and can be uprated to 4500kg without any moderations?

I wouldn't touch a Citroen, Peugeot or Fiat. We ran Mercedes and Opal Movano which proved to be very reliable. 750,000 Kilometers on the Mercedes and 650,000 on the Movano.
My Fiat hasn't even done 24,000 miles and the syncro has gone between 1st to 2nd and third to 2nd. 2300€ I'm having a battle with Fiat at the moment .

It doesn't give you much choice though Mike these days, most are Fiat offerings, Mercedes not as reliable as they once were as well.

Fiat have never had good gearboxes Mike, that's a lot of money too for the repair, wow.

If you want an automatic gearbox (actually semi-automatic), then Fiat is the choice, because Citroen don't do one.

I don't want one Mike, manual for me unless its full torque converter auto, it does put me off getting a Fiat reading posts like this, informative all the same. Is it a one off though or a common problem, that's the big question.

Mercedes are not as good as people expect them to be these days, but are still ahead of the rest of the pack. Trouble is anything to do with Mercedes is expensive if anything does go wrong.

Since 1996, had Elddis/Swift/Rapido/Rimor/Chausson MHs. Autocruise/Globecar PVCs/Compactline i-138
The problem with other makes (ie not Fiat/Peogeot/Citroen) is that they are not so good space wise due to the shaping and/or width, so a F/P/C base will always be best in this regard.

As for uprating, if it is indeed the equivalent of a Maxi heavy chassis (not the light version) then there's no reason why it couldn't be uprated to 4250kg as it stands, with some extra additions/changes (possibly tyres and assisted suspension) to take it up to the full 4500kg.

Had a few fiats LHD and RHD never had problems with synchro ,but probs with gear linkage on the RHD were common.
Fiat were never meant to be five speed and fiat themselves recommend over filling the gearbox and regular oil changes (fiat forums)
Have now a Citroen Relay (2000 Jumper) much smoother box 1.9td exlwb LHD goes better than last 2.5 TD I had

Edit don't know if this will work part from fiat forums

Been looking at importing a Possl, there are loads of 2.0L Citroens, in fact the majority appear to be.
Looks like a newish engine.
