A techy question just in case we have the experience round these parts....

We've bought a little campsite which currently has payed for wifi, we don't want payed for complicated (splash pages) wifi, we want simple site wide easy to use and free, or included callit what you will wifi.
Due to foil backed insulation in the bungalow I've solved wifi in said bungalow with a bridge setup but for the main site we need something more powerful than a typical outdoor access point, something with an omny direction aerial ideally, similar to what's there on the payed for but as said no splash pages and under my control, simple connect to ssid and enter password. The fun bit is I can't find a source of these more suited access points just the directional types so anyone?

Thoughts welcome overall too. I had thought one solution could be another bridge to a suitable location at the bottom of the site and an array of access points to cover the whole site, but this to me is messy and may not cover the top end fully, claimed range and actual concern me.

I think you need to give a bit of scale.

How many pitches will use this WiFi ?
What distances are involved ?

It sounds like it's all in place but is this just one rent ?

Interested to know where the site is?

In any case, good luck with the new venture!

Have you tried Cloudtrax.com very helpful lot and very simple to set up. Set up one in Scotland and one in Portugal 12 months ago and am using it now and the control you have over the mesh is great and all done on line.
I'm no geek so it must be simple.

Thanks for the input folks.

Brian, about 1.5 acres in a rough triangle shape needs coverage and 40 pitches, unfortunatly the broadband connection is at the wrong end of the triangle hence omnimdirectional solution the favourite. There is however a lamp post at the small end so bridging to that and blasting back up the site is an option as there is power there but no duct access hence the bridge.

Janie & Bob, HELLO, yes been a long time and glad Izzey is still being kept to the manor she's accustomed, Shelbys still spoild rotten, not that she'd agree, fun and games mind, arthritis puts her to quarter mile max walk distance, though she has the bike trailer, a doggie pushchair and doggie backpack now, TAXI.......
Just for fun she's also diabetic, injections twice a day that's fun given I hate needles, Sarah says it's my job though! Mind you can't tell, shes otherwise the same healthy happy nut case, since we got here we make a point of popping over the pub next door Friday evenings and Shelby knows it and starts faffing anywhere from Thursday evening.

Where, 5roads.co.uk, must speak to Jim on etiquette re posting site's details:)

I can see it now, thanks to Mr Google. I know nothing of WiFi on that scale but my first gut feeling was run two wires in the hedges to the mid point of the two long sides and set up two nodes to share the load. You always know where you are with a piece of wire.

@Dodgey Si, don't know if you are aware, but while 5roads.co.uk takes you to what is clearly your new web site, if you then click through to the google map, the web link shown on there is to www.fiveroads-caravan-park.co.uk which I assume is the previous owner's site.

I can only give limited help on the wifi requirement. In theory, the system supplied by usemynet.com meets your stated requirements. Easy to set up & run & they are helpful. I used it for a small cafe. We allow one hour at a time with a login code issued at the counter, which is fine for a cafe, but there are lots of options, including charging if you wanted to. You would need to speak to them about the best way to extend the range - there are some suggestions on their web site. I'm not sure if they could handle as many users as you might need. The standard router would start to have throughput problems if everyone wanted to use it at once, but it may be that your internet connection is the limiting factor anyway.

Their site is worth a read for info, even if you need something else to get the range.

I do have a contact with a specialist firm for doing this sort of thing, but they are in Lincs, which would make them an expensive option.
