Hello everyone, I am after picking your collective brains please?

I have just managed to get myself a new job and it means I will actually be in the UK for the first time in a few years!!

Basically, I live in Shropshire and the job is in St Albans. So, I will have to commute at weekends and stay in the St Albans area during the week. (It beats my current work location by about 5000 miles so thats cool!)

I'm planning on using my MH as accommodation during the week as its a lot cheaper than anything else.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a decent campsite in St Albans thats open all year round that I can use? I found one that was a nudist campsite but I'm too shy for that!

    Any advice would be great

    Many thanks

    Paul

Nudist site will be fine this time of year, doubt if they will be out in the buff with this weather, :eek:then move somewhere else as it warms up. (y)

Most commercial sites restrict stays to 21 - 28 days

If not Caravan Club member it may be worth joining, they have Certified Location sites or CLs, small 5 van sites with basic facilities, generally cheaper than big sites and not so strict on the 28 day rule.. .. but don't mention you are using your van as a base while working.. or living in it full time .. some CL owners do not like 'workers' on the site

book in for a couple of weeks... then ask to stay longer.. at this time of year not many are worried about how long you stay..

Thanks for the info so far. My idea would be to use the campsite monday to friday then go home over weekend with the van..... or leave van on site and use my car to commute to and from work.

I could park the MH up at my work location and stay there of course but initially id like electric and to be away from work at night!!!

I wasn't aware that campsites didn't like people being there over a certain time!

yes.. CLs have a 28 day rule..

larger sites vary but 21 - 28 days is usual.. some sites have seasonal pitches.. but limit any one stay to 21 days.

I believe it's set by the local council, and will be on the site licence

yes.. or have a word with the owner.. they are usually ok if you want to stay on.. but wait until you get to know them before asking..

Search for campsites which offer a seasonal pitch which might save on cost. You will not break the '28 day rule' because you will not be there at week-ends.

You may find that some CL owners are flexible about the 28 day rule[on the QT of course]. I have friends that stay on a CL all thru the summer. Sadly its not where you need it.

I doubt there are too many CL/CS owners who would turn away long stays.
I'd be inclined to check out CL/CS sites in the area you'd prefer and maybe go and have a chat with a couple of them and tell them what you're after. Even if it means a month on each of a couple of sites.

Not needed if you go home in your MoHo. There may be dispensation to leave it there 'in storage' at weekends if using your car as well?
