La Suze sue Sarthe is not too far, you can get the train in to Le Mans. It's €5.00 incl electric & services. It's by the river and a nice village, although there's not a lot of shops and restaurants, but enough for a couple of days.

As above, My vote is for La Suze. From memory, three bakers, 2 butchers and small supermarket Carrfore I think. Lovely walk along the river bank. Plenty of space, theres the dedicated are part on the left but loads of room on the graveled area. There is a campsite right next to it as well but this was closed when we came through in early October.

Another vote for La Suze sur Sarthe. We spent a couple of days there on our way to the Twin Lakes meet.
I am sure you will enjoy it Roy.
Brisey.

There is a free aire in the city centre down by the river (approx 7 vans and very popular). 10 mins stroll into town. 5 mins from a tram stop. 10 mins drive from the museum.

Avoid the dates of the 12th to the 19th though to avoid the crowds for the 24h du Mans

The Aire is on the Le Mans side of the river so to speak. We are 10m with 5m trailer and the first time we arrived from the Le Mans side because there were cars parked at the end of the road I couldn't get the angle to turn in. The last two times I've come in from the south(the village side) and had no problem getting in our out. Loads of space for turning once you do get in.

Was stopped there in 2014 about 10 at night. They were breathalysing everyone using the major junction. I was parfait although my 16 yo son was a bit perplexed when they asked him to blow in the bag first of all.
As far as I can see the vans in the photo will not be paying anything to stop.

I'm sure people do come and don't pay and we've probably all seen it on many Aires. We stayed 2 nights November 2015 and 3 nights this last October. Which ever location we stop at for the night I have a good walk round to see if there's any charges and where I might have to pay, others may not. All 5 nights we stayed the local policeman came round on his bike at around 5-6pm and then between 8-9am, surprising how many people had to go to the pay point then.

We stayed at Yvre L'Eveque (about 7km from the circuit) at Le Pont Romain campsite, which is within easy walking distance of a main road, and buses into Le Mans. I think it was an ACSI, and it was very nice. Several of the Classique exhibitors werew also staying there. We did stay at the aire in the centre for one night, but it was very crowded and tight, and difficult to park even my little 6m PVC. I managed to bash the left sill including the step on a low piece of concrete round the bourne while turning round. My banksman was busy chatting up another PVC (French) lady instead of guiding me!! But it was good to be able to walk into town and have a delicious meal at Le Nez Rouge in the old town. Le Mans is very nice!

We've been to La Suze on many an occasion, reliable aire. EHU, river, decent little town. The campsite at Beaumont too is good for a bit of fishing. There's also an aire at Montbizot just N East of Le Mans, that's OK, no hook up though.
