For what it's worth, when we first got our Rapido 746f, I got a quote from a nearby Fiat commercial specialist, of over £500 + vat for a cam belt change on the base 2007 X250 2.3. I also asked my local garage what they would charge, but they had to decline, as special tools are required for this job, which they didn't have, and didn' want to get!! I eventually persuaded the place I bought the vehicle form to do it for free, but that's a whole other story!!

    £418 inclusive sounds reasonable.

For that amount I would assume that it is a complete 'kit' including all idlers ,tensioner etc .& the water pump if that is in there ?

I paid £80 for timing belt kit and £100 for fitting on a Ducato 19TD, so over £400 sounds a lot to me.

I understand that they do change the water pump as a matter of course when doing the cambelt - at least that's what we were told!!

On the 2.3 Ducato the water pump is driven by the cambelt so it makes sense to replace it at the same time as the belt. This does of course push the cost of the job up, the water pump is a large alloy casing so not a cheap item on its own. Special tools required are timing locking pins for crankshaft, cam pulley and one for each cam as well, and a pulley puller for the injection pump pulley. £418 is in the right ballpark when you add new antifreeze/coolant into the story.

Was quoted £900 by our local Renault dealer to change mine on our Master van. Took it to the local garage and they charged me £450.
