Most cars have a main fuse, you can remove it and while saving data nothing will drain your battery.

Most information is stored in flash memory, things like radio codes and fuel maps, so unless you are away for a seriously long period, it should be fine.

Our old 1999 Discovery has this feature in the radio, doesn't 'lose' its code if the battery is off.

How do you alarm and lock the car with no battery if its removed and put on charge?

OK if in a locked garage I suppose but less secure if not locked and alarmed.

Well you can still lock it with the key. Alarm no ,obviously but if they are going to bring a battery to nick it ,well.
