Just received an 'amber alert' for an Aurora don't know how long they go on for, but thinking of making the trip up north tomorrow.

they are usually very short lived, an alert will relate to the next 6-8 hours, but sometimes they last longer

are you in France? you will have to cover some miles to have a decent chance :)

I'm up near Liverpool as it happens, been visiting kids. I've got a week before next Thursday's ferry to Caen. Is it worth thrashing up to Scotland?

Best of luck Jan and Augusta I would say yes if you can, but with as strong a recording as this you might get away lower down

Somewhere up on the moors by Alston looking northeast

This is quite a prolonged amber period, and showing signs of going back up :)(y)

best of luck, typical my motorhome is in workshops this week

just been wading through comments on Aurora site, looks like a lot of cloud over Yorkshire, reports of fog in Northumberland and where clear reports of moon being too bright to see anything with naked eye

@Augusta08 don't rush too far on my suggestion, but location wise, thinking of options, Shap Fell is easier and nearer to you (y)

I always think this is a good case of 'a camera does lie', when I do get to see the Northern Lights I want to see them myself

Loads of photos will appear tomorrow claiming to be seen tonight, but as you say only by their cameras

One day, still planning for Norway this September in MH (y)

Went to Tromso last year that's why I said about the camera what the camera does do is show you what's going on so you don't give up when it's actually there!!. The visibility comes and goes so hopefully you will see it with the naked eye we had a great show but having been there and done it I would always take a camera and tripod as do the northern lights guys in Norway!!
