Classic children's book, and one of the very few I have read more than once as an adult, I always shed a tear for poor Ginger."

I've still got the original book from when I was a young girl, loved it.

LOL - I have read it again in adulthood - and was surprised how very short it seemed - always lasted me half a week as a little un! I agree about Ginger and am absolutely certain I'd shed a tear now whereas in my yoof I never would have.

Both Amanda Barrie and Sheila Ferguson had me in tears the other night watching the Real Marigold ......

Still enjoying it ... sad though and remembering where some of my love of animals came from.

Finished this book a couple of days ago. It's a long time since I read it to my daughter and this book and film series started her love of horses and she still has Puzzle her dressage horse today. So when I read it this time I found myself relating each character to either the ponies Katy has owned or those of her friends at the yard. This made the book even more personal, enjoyable and sad. I did get muddled with the events of the book and the film as they do differ slightly but that aside I enjoyed reading this. Anna Sewell must have owned horses herself as her writing really brought out the characters and she really understood the different styles of handlers of horses too. Well done for choosing this Anne @CWH

I read this many times as a child but I found it different as an adult. I could only remember a small part of it, ie the fire and poor Ginger! I remembered it as being a "lighter" story, but that was probably reading it with a child's eyes. I'm glad I've read it again. Thanks for recommending it @CWH.
