Latest tips, places to see, pitfalls to avoid? We're in Bulgaria at the moment. Heard bad things about Romanian roads. Would like to go, just looking for advice.

Roads are pretty good, where do you want to go? Most of the north it’s best bits, keep to main roads.
You can enter few places from BG, we did recently Vidin, over the new bridge, it’s €6 euro to cross. Or the east side couple of places to cross, near the sea.

The road from Ramnicu Valcea to Sibiu, has loads of roadworks, particular Sibiu end into the motorway. Avoid that, we got caught in it 4hrs stop start long single file traffic lights for road works.

Yes, stick to speed limits, main reason to pull you over. Don’t get dragged into local behaviour, they know where to slow down, or have a cb radio for updates where they are. Make sure you buy the correct Rovinet, stick to speed limit posted, and you have no plroblems.

What does the Rovinet cover?

National roads, motorways, all roads outside town and localities. Its compulsory as soon as you enter, first petrol station, or online before you enter. It has to be done in the day you enter before midnight.

Cheers. Is roviniete.ro a kosher site or will they top up the charges? I'm getting 32 euros for 30 days over 3.5 tonnes or 16 euros for less than 3.5 tonne. Does that sound right? Not much anyway, I know.

If your logbook says mororcaravan, not a converted van, you can actualy pay the car rate. If log book is van with windows, its the one up, like the comercial. About 76 lei at petrolstation, about £14, for 30 days.

We crossed into Romania on Sunday at a tiny border crossing and there was no mention of any vingette. We have been travelling since then unaware that we needed one no doubt we will be due a fine even if we buy one today prior to leaving on Saturday. Anyone any idea o the potential fine. We are in a Motorhome under 3.5 tons.

Thanks, had a quick look earlier all I could see was cars, vans, bigger vans, lorries and bus’s, no mention of campers!

Just go to a petrolstation and get one. Fine? I don't know as i never had one. I pay the Rovineta, its cheap and no worries. There is no requiremwnt to inform you anyone at the border, but i very doubt you wondered what are those boots for. You can even buy it before you enter on the previous country.

We bought one online whilst I was typing this. I didn’t do my homework properly and I have now handed it in late. We are only staying for a week and have bought the 7 day one.

We crossed from Romania into Hungary this afternoon without any problems no mention of the thre days without the vingette. Phew!
