Does it do it at all revs or does it come and go and is worse as you accelerate ?

Sounds very much like wheel bearing..
Common on Fiats and easy enough to get confirmed...

Anything regular or with a distinct rhythm is usually mechanical (either that or you've left the radio on at low volume).

My gut feeling is wheel bearing, having had one go in a Fiat Ducato based MH and hearing the drone of doom for some time beforehand.

Before driving it any further, check all the front wheel nuts are all as tight as they should be, without overtightening - they can work loose when wheel bearings get worn out. Our front bearing started to go on the way down to Italy - we continued the holiday but the noise got worse on the way back and on our return we took it straight into the garage to get it replaced under the extended warranty. At regular intervals on the return journey I was having to re-tighten the wheel nuts.

Could it possibly be a worn ancillary belt tensioner, does it make that sort of noise? or would that be more whiney?

Does it do it when stationary and you rev the engine ??
If not, wheel bearing as said by many.. You can jack up each side and spin the wheels, you WILL hear it !!
