What is the aluminium in contact with? Aluminium normally only forms a thin layer of aluminium oxide that shouldn't be more than surface deep nor get worse once it forms.

Aluminium will react if it gets damp and sprayed with road salt or it is in contact with steel or copper. Removing the damp and salt will / should stop the corrosion.

Coachbuilt bodies often use a timber frame and if that gets wet enough for long enough wet rot will set in. When that happens you have big problems as the rotting wood gives out chemicals that will eat through aluminium. What this means is by the time you see the pinholes appearing in the ali skin the timber frame is fubar. The only realistic solution in my humble opinion is to strip it back, deal with the rotten timber, solve the water leak that led to it and then reskin, its a big job and I have done it before.

Aluminium corrosion can start as Dave says, if the panel is in contact with damp wood, also if it is in contact with damp in general, it can be caused by being in contact with another metal, or by damage to the paintwork, allowing road salt to get in.
Apparently, vinegar will dissolve the corrosion away, but if the cause of the corrosion is behind the panel, you I'll need to remove the damp before any repairs are effective.
